Read the bill yourself, and then tell me this covenantnews report is anything but a lie. My first clue was that their own link resolves to a totally unrelated story about the defense spending bill. I e-mailed their editor. See if he responds.

The abortion-family planning funds approved by Bush represents an increase of $21.5 million over last year for international family planning. Also on Thursday, Bush signed the labor, education and health spending bill, and a defense spending bill that was widely reported by The Associated Press (Bush Signs Defense Spending Bill).Well lets see, we have the murderous China now in the WTO,open truck borders with Mexico..so more "illegal" can pour in, we are killing babies all around the world, the commission on the arts still lives, immigrants will get food stamps again and OHH yea the constitution is "temporarily on hold" all with the permission of the compassionate conservative ......
Sorry scripture warns of wolves in sheep's clothing ...
He will ignore the social conservatives until he needs our vote again..the the freeple sheeple will all say AMEN one more time
Just spend your money and keep repeating "Islam is peace"

I don't know why everyone is such an uncritical supporter of what is turning out to be a democrat in drag, except that he isn't Bill Clinton. What is it going to take before the right stops seeing him through their rose colored glasses and holding his feet to the fire before he gives away the entire store?Freeple sheeple, that is your answer.....it is nothing short of idoltery

Text from the actual bill:
Provided further, That none of the funds made available in this Act nor any unobligated balances from prior appropriations may be made available to any organization or program which, as determined by the President of the United States, supports or participates in the management of a program of coercive abortion or involuntary sterilization: Provided further, That none of the funds made available under this heading may be used to pay for the performance of abortion as a method of family planning snip
Provided further, That nothing in this paragraph shall be construed to alter any existing statutory prohibitions against abortion under section 104 of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961.
snip
That none of the funds appropriated under this heading shall be used to pay for abortions
snip
(c) Conditions on Availability of Funds.--Amounts made available under ``International Organizations and Programs'' for fiscal year 2002 for the UNFPA may not be made available to UNFPA unless-- (1) the UNFPA maintains amounts made available to the UNFPA under this section in an account separate from other accounts of the UNFPA; (2) the UNFPA does not commingle amounts made available to the UNFPA under this section with other sums; and (3) the UNFPA does not fund abortions.
This might make some feel better.

You beat me to it. See my post #145.

"Basically, US taxpayers just picked up the tab for payroll. "Where do you see that?
Why do people who wrap their political positions in religion think that they have a license to lie?
Or do you work for one of those professional fundraising scam organizations that will say anything just to motivate people to contribute?
Your Bush-bashing won't stand up very long on FR.
To: bayourod
But then some people consider the use of condoms and birth control pills/devices a form of abortion. Not true. Condoms are true contraceptive devices, but do not cause abortions. Birth control pills, Depo-Provera, etc. however, can and DO cause early term abortions by preventing implantation.
But you can bet your Bush-lovin' butt that this bill funds RU486 and other "emergency contraceptives" (i.e., chemical forms of abortion.)
Bottom line: this bill sends money to abortionists, and you're here to hold their tools for them.
To: bayourod
Bush-bashing? I don't think so.
I voted for him, proudly, and I believe he is doing a wonderful job....for the most part.
To: Straight Vermonter
That was pointed out in post 27, I think, and I also did in post 90....but most bashers don't care.

The article is not a lie -- this bill funds the odious United Nations Population Fund (a major promoter of abortion ) to the tune of $25 Million dollars. It also says nothing about preventing chemical abortions which result from the use of RU486.
The idea that the language contained in this bill is going to prevent the recipient governments, UN agencies and NGO's from funding abortion is laughable.
How does it feel to carry water for the abortionists?
To: RnMomof7
immigrants will get food stamps againYou make it sound like every immigrant that enters the country gets food stamps as soon as they step off the boat.
Maybe that's what your posts appear so disengenuous.

Does anyone know if this is accurate reporting? Does this bill actually provide funding internationally for abortion clinics?
To: Aristophanes
The article is not a lie It clearly lies. The article states:
The bill authorizes $446.5 million U.S. tax dollars to be given to other countries for abortion-family planning activities.
Whereas you can argue that money will indirectly help fund abortion, but that is not what the money is "for". The bill clearly bans that use of it. The spin on the article is 100% a lie.

Helping others with what we have been blessed with is not communism. And, I know what I believe and can best judge whether or not you put words in my mouth. I would prefer that America help people voluntarily. I do not like being taxed for everything. But we are. And, as long as we are, it is morally right that those funds be used for good. If we could roll back the hands of time and just give the government everything it needs to provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves a posterity, then that would be wonderful. And if Americans would step up to the plate and help those in need, as is morally right, voluntarily, that would be even better. But it is not reality. The government does take, take, take and Americans give only inconsistently to those in need. So as long as this is the situation, knowing full well that it is not the best situation in the world, I have no problem with the funds being used to help others. That is not communism. That is compassionate conservatism and what is morally right. Communism entails putting everyone on an equal playing field economically and having no differences between us. I am a capitalist and do not believe that it is incumbent upon us to "catch everyone up" to America's blessings. There is a difference, and YOU are the one who seems to be ignoring that in your effort to bash Bush and anyone who tries to put this article in context.

That's it, ignore the text of the bill and just carry on in your rant. After all, we can't let the facts get in the way of a little Bush bashing party can we. Check post #145.
To: newgeezer
I read the bill myself. It's full of holes and fake language to make it seem like it can't be used for abortion, but the reality is nothing in this bill will give anyone the slightest pause from taking the money and killing babies with it. For example, nowhere does it define what "abortion" is. Nowhere does it ban chemical abortion, etc., etc. Not that it would make one damn bit of difference even if it did -- since it relies on the USAID director to report violations. (Ha! Ha! Yeah, right.)
You Bushbots are so willing to accept their Potemkin excuses that you're willing to trust the United Nations Population Fund to not do precisely what they've always done. I have no doubt that if this was a Clinton administration effort, you'd be all over this thing. But Bush can do no wrong.
How did you people get so damned gullible overnight?
