Hi Rheo. Nice to see you made it back home from your vacation. Hope you had a lovely time.

Re; Care Packages. The first box I sent to HLL, I did not spend one dime on, except the postage. I just recycled things from around my house that I thought they might like over there; things like note paper, books, magazines, fishing catalogs, perfume samples, makeup samples (those little Clinique thingies). I had a ball cleaning out all our drawers and I only sent new things or near new magazines and such. As you recall, at that time we were warned against sending things to Any Soldier. HLL took on the project of getting our packages there; she had to fill out custom forms and take everything for inspection to the National Guard. It might be possible to bypass that now for those who wish to send packages on their own. Aquamarine, for one, did have success sending a package to ANY SOLDIER.

JL; You mentioned HLL garlic potatoes. Well I see them mentioned on other threads here at FR. So many people have tried them and love them. I think the secret ingredient might be the cream cheese. Martha Stewart and others use whipping cream in their garlic smashed potatoes.

At Christmas time, I made 5 different cookies and gave plates to various friends etc. Well, two of the cookies were HLL Chocolate Chips and SuzyQ's fruit cake cookies, the other three were recipes from other sources that I have made for years. Well, all the feedback I have gotten from those cookie plates, everyone raved about the chocolate chip cookies and the fruit cake cookies, the two cookie recipes I got from the recipe exchange thread. When people ask for the recipes, I just print out that whole thread.

You KNOW the secret is the sour cream. My mother always used sour cream in hers - just about perfect spuds.

Thanks for asking..spending 2 weeks with my folks was great..I wish I could say glad to be back in WA but would rather still be in Florida. Oh, well, constant rain and grey is nice, too.(NOT)

Anyone in Florida hiring a bulk cement distribution terminal manager?????

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Years!...I missed you all.

I also used things from around the house. It was great to send magazines and stuff. That isn't to say that I didn't buy a few things, but I didn't spend a fortune and it was enough to fill a big box!!!! You don't have to buy much - and I know that they appreciate everything. I made HLL's chocolate chip cookies for Christmas and they were gone by the end of the 1st day. I made BIG points with my father-in-law when I showed up with them. :) HLL's mashed taters are really great too. We eat them at least twice a week. (Maybe that's why we need to go to Weight Watchers now) smile. There are so many good recipes on that thread. I have saved them to a disk so I can do a quick look to find the one I want. It's great to see you Daisyscarlett. I hope you have a wonderful evening. :)
