Second: he sure is. Don't know where you've been on this; me, I've been round and round and finally gave up trying to reason with Keyesters on it. If President Bush said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the only-begotten Son of God, conceived in the womb of the virgin Mary, crucified for our sins, and risen on the third day," Keyes' response would be something like, "'Only-begotten' may translate the Latin unigenitas, but as a rendering of the Greek monogenes it is deficient, and I think it is shocking and shameful that a President of the United States could make such a misleading and ignorant statement!" If Bush passed an Executive Order right now making every abortion in America illegal except for those for rape, incest, and the life of the mother, Keyes would only find himself able to lament those ~3% of abortions Bush had not touched.
Okay, so now it's your turn: disagree.
Dan
Keyes may disagree with Bush on some matters but that doesn't make him a Bush-basher ala CNN or Colmes. Is Gary Bauer a Bush basher? Or Orin Hatch? or Steve Forbes? All of them have disagreed with Bush on some things. We are allowed to disgree with Bush, aren't we?
As one who has been fired for telling the boss that he was wrong when I was paid to do just that, I don't have a problem with anyone telling the emperor that he has no clothes.
Under x42 we knew that something was going to done to intrude further into our lives and we were constantly on guard. While I'm pleased with Bush in general, I'm concerned that too many will give their blessing to the very things that they would have been up in arms about had x42 done the same thing. Powers granted to a good man will eventually be misused by an evil or stupid successor.
I was hoping it would be "Alan Keyes Has Promised Us He Won't Talk About Abortion So We Gave Him His Own Show"
Statement: water powerful wet stuff, that. Agree? Disagree?
Dan
I knew there was a rumor about Alan getting his own show, but I didn't expect the deal would be done so quickly. This is SO exciting! Now I'll have to see about getting cable . . . :)
In the 1996 campaign, Buchananites attempted to smear Keyes by saying he made exceptions for rape and incest in abortions. In the following message, Keyes addresses this, and states that he does not favor those exceptions. But he also indicates that he would be willing to accept a pro-life amendment to the Constitution that would make these exceptions, if necessary.
Alan Keyes: I have been involved in the pro-life movement for many years, and am on the record frequently as to my unalterable position of principle on the issue. I MAKE an exception only for the physical life of the mother. Given the unalienable right to life (i.e., self-preservation) I see no way in principle to avoid making this exception. I would ACCEPT the rape and incest exceptions only as a matter of political necessity if that is the best legislation we could achieve at the time (precisely the circumstances you allude to in your message). I see no grounds in principle for making these exceptions, but I do regard people who, for emotional reasons, make them (such as George Bush) as fellow pro-lifers. As a matter of political prudence it would be suicidal for the pro-life movement to reject these people. Though I disagree with them in principle, I will NOT pursue that disagreement in such a way as to lead the pro-life movement toward political suicide. . . .Feel free to pass this along to anyone who may be in need of clarification on my stance against abortion. You and Brookhiser apparently have "heard" Dr Keyes, but you never actually listened to what he is saying. Have a listen, you'll probably find you agree with him more than you disagree.
BTTT!!!
This is a perfect example:
You say: "It is Bush fans who need to change the tone." In your next post, you're saying to someone: "And you are a total idiot. I am glad you provide evidence with all the moronic hypotheses you make."
Sweetness and light. That's what you guys are all about, right? ("Happy New Year! Best Regards! Cheers! I'm praying for you, moron!") It's all the fault of the Bush supporters, of COURSE.
PERFECT!! This is the funniest thing I've ever seen on FR - you have NAILED it! LOL! Worth seeing again in bold.
