-didn't the pentagon take a direct hit from a supremely slow and un-stealthy large airliner this year? After 50 years of having the opportunity to have some air defences for itself? Not to be disrespectful to the dead, or rude, but there was definetly some screaming and running around and papers flying in the air action going on in the pentagon at that point. It happened, it's reality. It's pretty embarrassing, too. They apparently forgot the "no rules" rule in warfare it seems. Whoops. A few think tanks spending too much time in the tank, and not enough time with the "thinking" part, perhaps.

My point is, it's never a good idea to under or over estimate anyone's potential, even your own, or to think the next war is going to be the last war,it's the 21st century now, new ball game out there, no one country has a total lock on technology, even highly sensitive defense technology, thanks to the global free traders.

The F117 is a fighter. The Air Force calls it a fighter. Jane's calls it a fighter. F. F means fighter. I've never heard the F117 called a "bomber" except in the article and this thread. It doesn't have cannons? A lot of other fighters don't either, this isn't world war II.

Agree completely, which leads to say

no one country has a total lock on technology, even highly sensitive defense technology, thanks to the global free traders.

it won't always require free traders-we don't have a lock on brains/innovation. the chinese supposedly are developing (have developed?) a system that uses multiple antennae constantly monitoring & analyzing electronic signals from things like tv/radio stations, etc., and can detect (track?) a stealth plane by detecting the "hole" the stealth plane leaves as it travels through the signals.

*Not* an expert- just repeating what I've read.
