F-111's are awesome platforms.

They really made their bones tank plinking during the Gulf war.
I had heard something about them being fazed out.

Is this true?

The Australians still fly F-111s. The last F-111 in the US was the 524 FS, now flying F-16. The last of the EF-111s went to the boneyard in June 98.

For the record, EF-111s are better than Prowlers (EA-6B) for the USAF mission. However, the US Navy is still willing to fund Electronic Warfare. The USAF pretends to believe, but only until the budget hits. Then the USAF strangles EW.

This article points out the folly of the USAF. Sooner or later, there will be radars that can track stealth. Then jamming would be useful - and the EA-6B Flying Drumstick will be the only show in town...

Yes they were phased out of U.S. Inventory..the Australians still fly the F-111 C version under export contract. the F-111C continue to recieve uprgrades in avionics and missile capability..that being a drop /fire missile. The test div of DARPA may still fly them out of Edwards..Nasa did fly them for a while too under test.Am not sure if either flies them under test anymore though.

They are gone. Used to like watching them at Indian Springs north of Vegas. That base is also gone. They practically came right up to the fence along 95 getting ready to take off.
