The F-117 is a bomber. The F is a misnomer. The Nighthawk has no air-to-air radar and although it has the ability to carry AIM-9's, which are heat seekers, it rarely if ever does. It has no cannon to engage airborne targets. It does not engage in dogfights.

They should call it the B-117 or something! ;)

But it can engage in dogfights. It is a fighter-bomber. Consider it a big fighter, more capable of delivering bombs than surviving an intense dogfight. (But I wouldn't want to try it!)

Best designator would be the A-19, since it really should have been the -19 something or other and A indicates "attack" which is just another term for a (relatively) light bomber.
