There is something very wrong inside the Justice Department of the United States and there has been for some time.
Various newspapers are now reporting that under President Clinton, the Federal Bureau of Investigation was ordered to stand down on various terrorist investigations.
One of the most egregious examples is the failure of the bureau to investigate fundraising organizations like "The Holy Land Fund," based in Arizona, which allegedly funneled millions of dollars in donations to Middle Eastern terrorists.
Although the Bush administration has now frozen the assets of the fund, it was apparently allowed to operate for 8 years despite the FBI intelligence that was presented to Mr. Clinton and then-Attorney General Janet Reno. One bureau source told the press that Ms. Reno felt any investigation of "The Holy Land Fund" would lead to anti-Arab sentiment and therefore was opposed to such an investigation.
As always, Ms. Reno will not comment on any aspect of her tenure as attorney general that is at all controversial.
There is no question now that under Ms. Reno and then-FBI Director Louis Freeh, Americans were put at great risk. The Wen Ho Lee-Chinese espionage case still has not been explained, and the fact that the 19 Sept. 11 terrorists weren't even on the FBI's radar screen is about as frightening as Janet Reno's passion for political correctness.
The current attorney general, John Ashcroft, has made no attempt to examine Ms. Reno's bizarre behavior or update the public about the Marc Rich investigation or anything else. Mr. Ashcroft specializes in looking dour and stonewalling. While Congress is attempting to get documents about President Clinton's dubious foreign fundraising and FBI abuses in Boston, Ashcroft is refusing to cooperate at all.
And this isn't a political issue. Conservative Congressman Dan Burton and liberal Congressman Barney Frank have actually joined forces to try and pry this information from Ashcroft's hands. If that's not amazing, then nothing is.
The truth is that for nearly 8 years, the Justice Department has been corrupt and inefficient. Janet Reno botched nearly every important decision she had to make including Waco and Elian Gonzalez. Time after time, Ms. Reno refused to approve investigative initiatives sought by the FBI. And time after time, Mr. Freeh sat in his plush government office refusing to let the American people know what was happening.
Now Mr. Ashcroft is doing the same thing. There is no reason on this earth why the public should not know the status of the Rich pardon probe. Or the anthrax investigation. And what about Enron, Mr. Attorney General are you going to look into that? Millions of Americans were hosed while some Enron executives made millions.
How about a comment on that, Mr. Ashcroft?
How true, how true! Some posters think that voting by itself will control corruption to acceptable levels. I disagree. It takes powerful individuals with principles and a love of the Constitution to do it. Give me 1 Ron Paul at President, 9 Ron Paul's on the Supreme Court, 535 Ron Paul's in the House, and and this country would look damn different in about 24 hours -- unrecognizable to most Americans -- my wet dream! Oh yeah, and the Second Amendment on everyone's night stand!
A national sales tax is needed, I agree.
However, focusing only on a sales tax
will not produce practical gains.
In our daily life,
the most important thing is our family.
However, if we focus only on our family's emotional wellbeing,
our work will suffer, and we'd run out of money.
If we focus only on our work,
our family's emotional wellbeing will suffer,
and our friends will be neglected.
If we focus only on our friends,
we won't have any knowledge of current events.
If we focus only on current events,
the housework will never get done...
You get my point, I'm sure.
There is no way that we'll get anything done
if we focus only on one issue.
That's not a problem,
we are capable of acting
on several fronts at once.
And we need to.
Now why would Washington allow us to do anything that would diminish their influence?
You're describlng Heaven on Earth, BillofRights.
I agree.
Ron Paul is my choice for President.
Ron Paul is my choice for anything else, too.
It seems to me the President has been spending the surplus, giving taxpaying Americans back some of their hard-earned money and rebuilding our depleted military--- we are at war, you know. I'm sure you received a refund, all tax payers did. Have your Federal taxes been raised since President Bush took office ? Didn't think so. Whose budget you think the government is operating under right now ? Here is a hint: It isn't President Bush's budget.
Surplus n. excess ( i.e over collection from the whopping tax increases from the previous 8 years)
There is no difference
beween truth and justice,habs4ever.
Truth IS justice.
The Republican's bore the wrath of the people
because they betrayed the promises made
in the "Contract with America" .
When the people believed in the Contract,
Republicans gained both houses of Congress.
When the people lost faith,
even the corruption of Bill Clinton wasn't enough
to overcome the people's contempt of the Republicans.
Bush barely won.
It was so close that opponents
can even say that he didn't win.
Republicans even lost the Senate.
When the Republican's endorsed Clinton's abuses
by allowing him to stay in office,
they lost the trust of the people.

There never was a surplus, Darlin'.
I thought everyone knew that.
The "surplus" that the Democrats and Republicans
have been bragging about is a lie.
It was known to be a lie from the begining.
They juggled the figures.
They fiddled with the numbers.
They lied.
Very well thought out, lovely palo.
The Contract with America re-awoke my political ambitions.
After the betrayal of that Contract by the Republican leadership,
I too am now looking for someone worthy of my trust.
Without counting the Social Security money, there is no surplus.
That money is supposed to be for retirees.
It is not an operating surplus.
Let's say that I want a new computer.(I do)
However, I don't have the surplus money to buy it.
If I do my bookkeeping in the government manner,
I just dip into my parent's retirement fund.
Wow!!
Now that's what I call operating surplus!
I can get a really good computer now!
I see your point, habs4ever,
but in the context you used it in,
there is no difference.
You said,
"...It's just the politcs overode it at that time.
Maybe it isn't truth you are after, but Justice??

Without truth, justice is denied.
Justice denied is a betrayal of truth.
A betrayal of truth denies justice.
