On the other hand, when you also know that they were college roomates, you might think they were closely tied. What I am getting at is how different they are philosophically.....I see Kristol as a neo-con whereas Keyes is hard Christian conservative right. I believe Kristol is pro-choice, too, though I could be wrong.

However, I think some here try to make too much of the fact that they were roomates and probably friends in college. People do change over the years.
While Keyes and Kristol were roomates in college, others were boozing, partying and members of "secret societies" doing who knows what kind of weird things.
