Why did Fineman write this article? As a warning? To indicat that he is offended? As a public service?p>I plan to bump this as often s I can.

Yours is the most interesting comment in this thread. Why, indeed, did Fineman write this and Newsweek print it?

In my mind there are two alternatives:

1.) Fineman has been noticeably kinder to President Bush on the talk shows, Newsweek has to have seen its numbers rise whenever they feature the President, and perhaps it is just a warning.

OR

2.) This isn't really the democrats' plan, but it gets all sorts of people in a dither, squabbling and pointing fingers, and weakens the Republican base without the dems having to do anything at all. You can see the squabbling beginning right here.

Personally, I choose Door Number 2.

I would like to hope that this would backfire on the Democrats. But, I am not sure that it will. I remember how John McCain was able to garner support from many democrats by Demonizing the so called "Religious right" as extreme. And, religious leaders, such as Pat Robinson, haven't been much help.

But, the truth be told... Most religious conservatives have been very quiet and peaceful lately. The only religious leader who has been making any waves is the Democrats own Jessie Jackson. What would they do to enable Jessie Jackson to be representative of the religious movement in the states, yet calling all others radical? It's a logical question that can't be answered by emotional people. But, they'd find a way. They would not want to aleniate their core Black Voting Block.

I personally would like to believe that this is a miscalculation on the part of the democrats, as more people have turned to religion than away from it. This is all as a result of 911. People are more intraspective and contemplative than one year ago. Issues that were important them just doesn't seem to be important now. I guess that the Democrats haven't learned this.

Let the Democrats do what they will. Americans are very sick of "fake" issues and "celebrities". They want down to earth good, hard working male figures. Not an administration run by the likes of janet Reno, Madeline Albright, Hillery Clinton, Jessie Jackson, Tom Dashile. Honestly.
