For those who missed it the first 5 or 6 times, Jeffords wife hates the fact that he is in Congress and is a registered socialist.
It would have passed overwhelmingly. IT passed the last time with almost a veto proof majority in both House and Senate. This time we had the President ready to sign it. Why didn't they do something? They had six months, for pete's sakes, before Jeffords screwed it all up.
It's easy to vote in favor of the ban when you know full-well Clinton will veto it. When Congress knew Bush would sign it into law, I don't think the GOP would have the votes. In fact, I'm almost certain they wouldn't.
All the friggin' hippies from New York moved up there back in the sixties and seventies. Now these marxist yuppies are electing ultra-liberal scum like Jeffords. He's a disgrace. They ought to make a law forbidding changing parties in midterm. My GOP support money helped elect that pr*ck so we could have a stronger platform and senate majority, not him, but the GOP. I'm pissed about this move!
Vermont has been invaded for the last 20 years by a bunch of fat, balding Hippies. The 'natives' up there have no say anymore. It's a small state (only one congress critter) so it didn't take a lot of influx of former SDS members to swing the balance of power. It's kind of like Berkeley or Madison population wise but with two US Senators.
First of all, you guys won the Megabucks AGAIN!!!!!
How 'bout spreadin' the Yankee wealth a bit.
More to the point.
I congratulate you on your choice to be a home-schooling mother.
If I were*responsible for grandchildren (I have none yet) I would either teach them myself or try to find a school with Sisters of Mercy as the faculty to teach them. I had nine years of education with the Sisters in classes of 60 kids and, even though I was one smarter snots, almost every kid in our begining class graduated.
*(Sister Mary Faustina taught me the conditional tense...and I still get into arguments with people about the 'was' - 'were' thing.)
From your last response....I agree...you're probably not "unreasonable'...but that's how you described me at first.
You said: "I am speaking from my own experience".....as a teacher.
I was speaking from my experience as a business executive (now retired) fed up with the NEA and its leadership's activities (not the rank and file) to force the educational system into a quagmire of inflated grades, shorter school years, and opposition to charters schools...just to name a few.
The President of the VT. NEA, Angelo Dorta, has been bad-mouthing school choice for years, no doubt, because it would divert government funds to schools that actually want to try to EDUCATE kids.
Last week we learned that 'ol Angie is sending his kid to Rice Memorial, a Catholic High School, for his senior year. When asked about this obvious inconsistency, Angelo said: "It's a personal matter and not subject for discussion."
I understand your point that "children who are underaverage intelligence suffer in large classes." And I have no problem with spending money to alleviate that problem....but........
After retirement, I spent 5 years as a reporter for the local Gannett rag and covered my local and nearby school districts and government councils.
I was amazed, as I tried to be objective, to see the hordes of "spend more, spend more to solve education problems" going after the boards who were trying to balance the needs of students with the ability of taxpayers to fund everything the NEA et al wanted.
My latest "part-time career" is as the cashier for the Food Service department of a nearby K-2 school.
I love it.............My son is a bachelor, so far, and doesn't appear to be heading toward grandchildren.
No problem...I've got 200 at the school and I don't even have to babysit.
But what I see there.......and this was my INITIAL and PRIMARY point is a group of teacher's aides (God bless 'em) who are simply carrying (physically)or wheeling several poor, unfortunate, totally disabled children (one way or many) through the day.
I fail to see why the local educational facilities and the taxpayers should have this burden placed on them.
There has got to be a better way of providing some education and solace and comfort to these kids.
God bless and Happy New Year!
When I got here 30 years ago the Mayor (A Dem) was on two of my committees as the EVP of the regional (Burlington, VT) Chamber of Commerce.
Bernie the Red was fooling around with some movie biz bullsh*t.
When Bernie ran for Mayor of BTV the first time the biz com (fat and happy) said "no problem" our guy will kill him.
Bernie won by 10 votes and I called a bunch of my so-called biz-leaders and asked them if they voted........25 said NO!
Since then..Chicago Bernie and Peter the Prog Clavelle and a whole bunch of liberal infiltrators have turned the polictics of VT around 180*....not to mention Leaky Leahy and Benedict Jeffords.
We get no attention from the National GOP who just asked me for a contribution AGAIN....BULLSH8T.....
We need a gdmn revolution from the grass roots to get Vermont and America BACK.
...which is what rumor has it that Jeffords is really after - a Democratic nomination for the gubernatorial seat. That's the hot rumor out here in Seattle, anyhow - any comment from someone like you, who must have his ear a heckuva lot closer to the ground? Enquiring minds would love to know, because I don't believe Jeffords did this for special ed and farm subsidies either.
Jeffords doesn't have to "move back". Nor do the Republicans need to "take him back".
All Jeffords has to do, in order to re-gain his leverage, is to remain Independent...and vote for Lott as the majority leader.
As soon as he lets both sides know that his vote can not be taken for granted, his legislative priorities will be catered to -- by both parties!
Jeffords, alas, is too stupid to understand this.
Is there enough 'roots' remaining there to start the revolution? It sure seems to me that you are being overrun with folks looking for more government while the old-time NH Yankees are heading South and West.
This will be the umpteenth time I will present this scenario...but...pas de probleme...I am happy to report from the Socialist Capitol of America.
I was in the business community for 30 years as a Chamber of Commerce Executive.
In 1973 as the CEO of the N. Adams,MA Chamber...I had the dubious distinction of introducing Teddy Kennedy.
Just before his introduction, I said : "Excuse me, Senator, I'll be right back (when I went to the john )
What does the millionaire, son of Fitz, the rum rummer, say to me?
"Hey, Jimmie.....you gonna eat those podaydoes?"
Count me ignorant, fortunately thats curable, as shown here. You are right, Jeffords is stupid, which is incurable.
Thanks for pointing out that their constituents routinely reelect Leahy and Sanders...I'll never buy another hardwood cutting board from that state.
I don't consider myself a Mainer. I'm from De-troit. (but not a Lions fan) The handle comes from my elementary school as that was the first place I held an audience captive with my political views. (I stood on the slide ladder and the kids who wanted to slide down had to listen to be ramble about Barry Goldwater during recess.....I wasn't very popular) :)
