Conservatives are often afraid to speak up:
1. For preserving American culture and opposing uncontrolled immigration (mostly illegal) for the fear of being called racist.
2. For oppositing affirmative action and all kinds of discrimination for the fear of being called racist.
3. Against the interventionist foreign policy and foreign entanglements for the fear of being called unpatriotic, anti-semitic etc.

Very good. I for one, am not the least bit afraid to speak my mind in public about these matters. But I fear that you are correct about the cowardice of many conservatives(present company excluded, of course).
