gatorman, Thanks so much for your insightful post. In addition to teaching in the public schools, I also taught in a private school, and what you said here, below, I could not have said better myself:
One caveat however, not all private schools are a better choice for parents than [public school]. Many private schools are scholastically no better than the [public school] they just left from, but they tell the parents exactly "what they want to hear". Parents must take the time to investigate private schools thoroughly - perceptions are not facts.

And, BTW, thank you for focusing in on the purpose of today's post, as perceptions -- such as: "all GOP leaders ignore the disabled" -- are hardly facts:
Parents must take the time to investigate private schools thoroughly - perceptions are not facts.

Thought you might enjoy reading about this voucher program here in FL.
Interestingly, to me at least, I could find no mention of this voucher/scholarship program on Gov. Bush's official campaign site -- even though the press has been reported 14,000 parents have expressed interest in this program, and 3,900 disabled students are currently enrolled in it.

WP, I have never seen you post on this forum, yet, today I noticed your name on the national board list. But, maybe someone is merely using your name as a joke here. Maybe -- TLBSHOW??? :)

It would be nice if a way could be found to let Florida teachers know about these excellent essays you have written.
Maybe you can think of a way to assign them some homework. ;-)

Dog, Thanks for your post above, but: no one likes homework! :)
However, someone actually wrote to me yesterday about posting these editorial links on the Daytona Beach News Journal Online forum, as you can see by my link on post #23 on this thread.
Maybe other people would also like to post these editorials on newspaper forum web sites (as shown in post #23 on this thread) -- especially Part 6, which is a summary of new financial benefits for teachers, and this Part 7, which is about the disabled. All these editorials can be found by clicking on my screen name, as they are bookmarked on my profile page.
Here is a site listing all the online newspaper in FL. If anyone decides to post on one of these website, please let me know, by freepmail.
And, maybe down the road we can do a thread of all the public responses culled from these other forum sites.
Click here for a list of online FL newspapers and links.
