Public schools will not go away. For the mainstream of society, they work OK. And they certainly allow children to be educated whose parents would not otherwise care. But some parents want that religious option or that high-achieving school or even schools for special students.
This line just about sums up my impressions about Jeb Bush as governor, and of conservative politicians in general. In sharp contrast to dem pols who promise everything to everybody in order to get elected, and then fail to take action once they are in office, true conservatives try very hard once in office to enact laws to fulfill their promises. Very often they are stifled in their efforts by dem majorities, but it's good to see a Republican governor like Jeb actually able to accomlish some good for the citizens of Florida.
I should add that I thank you for your ping to this treaad as well as the others. I' sorry I don't have the time to respond as often as I would like.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks, summer.
I have no doubt that motive was what's behind the Bush people's omission.
Which easily & satisfactorily accounts for their behavior?
Now then; think Janet Reno's people are going to follow that tack, summer dear?
Silly question, eh?
Nevertheless, a question which begs a careful, honest answer; before you [FL Bush supporters] enter the political arena to do battle with this particular person.
Have ya noticed just who this Reno character's recruited to run her campaign?
You have??
OK then; study her new Campaign Manager's last gig, & then?
Mix in copious amounts of James, "Serpent Head" Carvile's MO running the Clintler campaign & you start to synthesize & conceptualize a pretty good picture.
A picture of how they're going to fight, what they're going to use in said fight, and, the depths to which they'll condescend in their hell-bound effort to win this old bag the Big Chair in Tallahassee.
OK?
Yes Ma'am ya sure will, alright; better than having a Chrystal Ball. ;^)
"And, I often feel that way as well, because I just want to see progress made and I don't care which party makes such progress."
As do I, summer; moreover, wasn't it the *Great Communicator* quoted saying something like, "I don't care who gets the credit for a good idea; as long as we can do it." [paraphrased]
Yea summer, great minds think alike, then; your's & his?
"If Gov. Bush wants to take the lead on issues the Dems should not have ignored, but did, well, that's fine with me."
But summer dear?
Is it not that to which the fighting's all about, sweetheart.
That *is* the essence of politics; right?
...here, have an apple. :^)
"This whole accountability issue is based on the presumption that if you are accountable to government authorities, then the taxpayer is well protected," he said. "Private schools are accountable to parents."
This main point is why this program will be so successful. The complex bureaucratic obstacles and political boondoggling has crippled PS in this area statewide. So, frusturated and disappointed parents are more inclined to choose a school they have a "voice" in - private schools, or, PS that are in partnership with the parents in educating their children. The John M. McKay Scholarships for Students With Disabilities offers parents an excellent opportunity to change to another PS in their district or choose a qualified private school.
One caveat however, not all private schools are a better choice for parents than PS. Many private schools are scholastically no better than the PS they just left from, but they tell the parents exactly "what they want to hear". Parents must take the time to investigate private schools thoroughly - perceptions are not facts.
IMO - the whole issue of vouchers if they do anything at all . . . they provide parents with a tool to get involved, take back their responsibilities, and become part of their child's educational process, and, that is why we need them.
THANKS, Jeb, for giving parents of special needs children options for success.
