I remember Big Country. U2 was the first concert I ever attended and Big Country was the second, and I was just a kid so my mom made my brother take me to both of them (he ended up enjoying them as much as I did). I really enjoyed Big Country's music. Such a shame this happened.

I prayed for him the other night. I had read he had dissappeared from their web site. I collected Big Country for years and years. A good buddy of mine actually ran an American Fanzine for them called "All of Us" (named after the b-side of the "In a Big Country" single). I am in tears as I write this, I argued with him over his political stances, Big Greenpeace, ect... pushes. Sad his life was so hollow to go out thinkin nobody cared. I did, I love his work and would of put him up in my home to help him.

During the height of Big Country's 14.7 seconds of fame, Stuart Adamson said something to the effect that "all American music was crap."

In retort, Brian Setzer of the Stray Cats said "who does he think invented Rock and Roll - Angus MacPresley?"

I remember that! It was quite the issue on MTV at the time. Of course, I sided with Brian Setzer and have disliked Big Country ever since. Not exactly my most profound political stance. But as a bonus, I still like Brian Setzer, and hadn't heard another peep from Big Country until now.

I absolutely loved Big Country as a teenager growing up in the 1980's.

I'm very sad to hear of the death of Stuart. May his soul rest in peace, and may his family have comfort at this sad time.

A sure formula for One-Hit-Wonder status...

The best album was Steeltown. It had no hits, but is far better than 100% of any guitar played here in the state. The song "Wonderland" is my favorite song ever produced. Their Live performances was unsurpassed. The album "The Seer" featured an awesome duet with Kate Bush. The mixing new wavish sound was unsurpassed in the remixes of about 5 songs for that album. If you want NEW WAVE 80's there is no better group to define the definition, yet the guitar was real, not sym pop. There was a second "hit" actually, though not the same impact as "In a B.C.". "Look Away" made the US top 40 and number 1 on MTV videos for a week. Too bad they were never really given the proper push deserved of their talent. They were unsurpassed IMHO.

I don't think I spoke too soon. It's just a conversation. I'll readily admit I know nothing of Talk Talk beyond the hit song. Radiohead is fantastic, I had no idea they were influenced by Talk Talk... but since you mention "sounds" and "ambient" I can't help but think that Brian Eno must've then had a major influence on Talk Talk.
