AUSTRALIANS FEAR NEW BREED OF 'SUPERDOG' (EWE CANNOT BE SERIOUS!)
Drudge Report ^ | Dec 16 | Drudge

SYDNEY -- Sheep farmers are being terrorized by packs of half-dingo, half-mastiff wild dogs they say roam the countryside and pose a danger to humans.

Graziers say hundreds of sheep and lambs have been killed by the so-called "superdogs", which are breeding in rugged forests and mountains in New South Wales and Victoria.

They say the dogs are so aggressive that it is only a matter of time before they attack a hiker or farmer.

Six months ago wild dingoes on Fraser Island, a holiday resort off the coast of Queensland, killed a nine-year-old boy.

The cross-bred dingoes, larger than normal dingoes, are the product of mating between the native dog and escaped domestic breeds such as Alsatians, pit bulls and bull mastiffs.

Wild dogs have thrived since national park rangers abandoned a program of dropping poisoned meat baits from planes and helicopters four years ago.

The program ended due to concerns that the baits killed tiger quolls, an endangered native animal about the size of a cat.

The number of wild dogs on the loose also has increased due to a rise in recreational hunting in the forests.

Hunters use breeds such as rottweilers and Rhodesian ridgebacks to go after wild pigs, and some of the dogs escape and interbreed with dingoes.

Angry landowners are calling for a resumption of aerial baiting, saying the dogs are becoming increasingly bold.

Farmer Stuart Morant, 50, who runs 500 sheep on a 405-hectare property in the Tallangatta Valley in Victoria, said he had lost thousands of dollars worth of livestock over the past few years.

"Aside from the financial loss, it is incredibly distressing. I walked down to one of the paddocks one morning to find a wild dog had attacked a ewe as it was giving birth to a lamb. The dog had eaten half the lamb as it was coming out of the womb, and killed the mother," Mr Morant said.

The problem has become so acute that Australia's first National Wild Dog Summit will be held in the city of Wodonga, Victoria, in February.

Farmers, politicians and national parks rangers from Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland will meet to try to resolve their differences and plan an eradication campaign.

A spokesman for the National Parks and Wildlife Service of New South Wales said:

"We sympathise with farmers. They say they are witnessing the emergence of a kind of `superdog' in the mountains. We understand how tough it is to have 200 sheep killed in a season. It's very traumatic. But the tiger quoll is a threatened species."

Sheep farmer Betty Murtagh rejected the quoll argument, saying the wild dogs killed quolls and other wildlife.

No offence intended byron. Just kiwi/aussie/brit cousins brawling in the back yard.

Mixed in with a little of JJ's 'special' brand of humour.

He will thank you for the explanation, K-Lee. But you may also need to explain what 'humour' actually is. He seems unfamiliar with the concept.

I agree. Most uncommon for an aussie to be so sensitive.

For the most part, we have been able to take the pi$$ out of each other and not take it personally.

Definition of humour: Aussie rules rugby shorts.

Mightily uncommon. I thought a sensitive Aussie was a guy who kept his A Rules shorts on while reading Lads Mags on the beach with a can of Toohey's in his mitt.

A sensitive aussie guy is any that would wear those shorts in public. One that will actually bend over in public in those shorts has a question mark over his masculinity.

Sorry, that should have been Byron. Just that so many Aussies are called Bryan and Sheila.

Bruce, mate, Bruce. KingKangaroo's parents are Bruce and Sheila Cahill from St Kilda. She's a clapped out hooker, and he's a drug running union thug.

The shorts would be sure to split.

Especially if cultural icons like Sir Les Paterson, Shane Warne, Rolf Harris, Alf from 'Home and Away', Bee from 'Prisoner Cell Block H' (well, she's got to be a bloke!) and Clive James were donning them.

This is THEIR fault. If they'd spay their animals BEFORE they got loose, turned feral, and bred with the native Dingos, this wouldn't happen. And yet, it's the dog's fault. Fools.

Not allowing that one, mate. I've communicated with both over the email and they were really nice people. Bruce has got a good sense of humour too.

, Alf from 'Home and Away',

This is a disturbing thought. You might need therapy after putting yourself through this. I cant believe they torture you Brits with that soppy teen soap opera.

Australia is even beyond Canada in its destruction of what is good for their citizens and the PC of what's bad.

None of these ranchers have guns thanks to the Australian PC antigun fervor. First the two legged animals have taken charge. Australia is one of the leading countries re Hot Breakins, which means the bad guys break into your home during the day or night when they know that you are there! Nothing to fear, now! They have guns and the good and innocent Aussies are like these sheep being attacked by feral dogs protected by the left wingers who really hate mankind!

Now this! The PC love for feral dogs far outweights any concern about the ranchers economic survival and personal safety. At least one boy has been killed! There probably have been others. The left wing Australian fishwraps will spike these stories which tell about the two legged ferals and 4 legged ferals killing and attacking innocent humans!

Just look at Australian and Canada as examples of what will happen to us if the left wingers ever take over America! You get what you vote for and when you ignore left wing agendas that can kill you!

Gramps: you may be right but I'm a Brit. We have a 'Socialist' PM. However many suspect he is further right than most of the Tory PMs we ever had (apart from Maggie and Winston).

These people would sell their grannies to achieve power!

Or as in the case of Britain, Canada and Australia, sell out their countrymen re no guns and more socialism under the guise of PC good things!

Do you still live in the UK? I understand since guns have been taken away from the good Brits/Scots that the UK crime rate is sky rocketing. That, coupled with an open borders policy and the PCing the beauty of diversity at all costs to the original Brits has created a hostile place to live.

Blair appears to be a chameleon. He can be conservative when he needs to be. However, most of his policies are left wing socialism wrapped in the PC agendas!

God Bless you if you have to live there!

Dogs trained to hunt with are one of the last types of dogs to run away. They had to get that hunting slam in there though didnt they. Its a bogus attempt to cut off the "hunt the wild dogs" logic of helping to control the problem, before someone suggest it. Boy, I can even see through that one.

Thank you for your good wishes, Grampa. Actually, I live in London and New York.

Both have their merits. London is by and large the safer of the two cities, though both are riddled with crime and disorder (as are most thriving major cities). You mention political correctness but I am afraid this is a point which Americans almost always get wrong.

Political correctness is an illness we inherited from America, not the other way round.

Most New Yorkers of the American variety will complain to you that the New York Brits are the loudest, most drunken and, crucially, unpolitically correct bunch of people you could ever meet.

Gee, I thought that most that was good and most that was bad came from you guys! That Canada and Australia were your best students! You know like socialized medicine, gun control and then gun seizure, high taxes to pay for pc cr*p and the love of diversity or perversity!

I think that London's rise in crime rates the past 3 years versus the drop in NYC makes London more of a crime town. Both are checkerboards. You can be safe and walk two blocks and be at peril by just being where you are! Any big city is that way! Hell, my little hometown of Napa is like that. I no longer walk in areas that I used to walk in 5 years or even 2 years ago!

Enjoyed discussing this with you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Years and stay safe in both cities!
