Houston Freepers have first meeting and form chapter
12-15-01 | Me

Posted on 12/15/2001 6:24:32 PM PST by BUSHdude2000

Today the Houston area Freepers gathered and started the process of organizing a chapter. There were only a few of us, but it was a good turnout for less than a weeks notice and planning and for being the holiday season.

We have yet to come up with an official name for the chapter and we are taking suggestions. Be informed that Gulf Coast is already taken. We edited and adopted temporary chapter bylaws using the HOT chapter bylaws as an example.

We have a Freep planned for Madeleine Halfbright when she makes a trip to Houston in April, more details as we get closer. There was also talk of Freeping Lee. P. Brown's final inauguration/swearing in (if he can get the words right), but we don't know the date of that dreadful event yet.

Houston Freepers will be a force and we look forward with great anticipation to future events/Freeps and we hope to follow other great chapters like D.C., South Carolina, HOT, Gulf Coast and others.

Then take the Hardy toll road then. :)

Just make sure you dodge that truck drive shaft laying across the #1 and #2 Southbound lanes that cost me $500 in new tires and repaired rims. (ouch!)

We've got FReepers up on the North side too, so I'm sure we will have some meeting up that way too.

Let's face it with the new 55 mph speed limit tyrany and slowing down to dodge Lee.P.Brown road hazards (pot holes and uncleared debris) it will take about an hour for most of us in the burbs to get anywhere within Houston.

Maybe if we work together, we can do something about this. :)

How do I get in on this? I'm on the west side, just outside the Beltway.

Well, we can only do so much to make people aware of the meetings. We had messages in the Texas Locale for almost a week. We had a small gathering, but with the short notice and the holdays, it was rather successful. We will keep all Freepers updated, check the Texas Locale after the first of the year for the next gathering.

ALL HOUSTON FREEPERS...

At the meeting we discussed setting up in ADVANCE all meetings and locations...we were/are discussing QUADRANT locations...therefore people up in the Woodlands will have at least one meeting in the North area every 4/5 months.

We are hoping that we can find a place that will be able to sit a large group, at one table(s), comfortably, (House of Pies was a little tights for even 5 folks).

Some locations to consider, I believe if we meet at "Icehouses/Honky Tonks/Nightclubs" (places without "slime in the ice machine" PLEASE!!!!) in late afternoon we have access to beverages, food...laid back atmosphere...and taking our money to smaller business -vs- large franchises.

We feel maybe if we can rotate the meeting spots we can "lure" in some folks who don't have the luxury of hauling butt all over town.

Maybe we can meet at someone's home, and we can have a food group to defray the FOOD burden on the host.

Those were some suggestions that were tossed around.

I suspect the NEXT meeting will be in the CENTRAL area ~ Saturday at 3 pm January 19, 2002. In keeping with a SCHEDULE folks can take a pen to their calendar and make notes on time and places.

I will be pushing for a meeting at the Mucky Duck http://www.mcgonigels.com/...nice English Pub, great food...excellant beer from around the world...and great coffee too. Smoking is tolerated.

Bump

I'm going to start clearing my calender for January 19. A thought - there are many non-Houston FReepers in the area. I understand we are still in search of a name and it would be nice to have the Sugarland, Woodlands, Kemah and others feel at home. Okay, Stafford, too.

I look fat, even though I have lost about 20 pounds this year.

I demand a re-shoot.

nice English Pub

I suggest, in order to keep the IRA off of us, you refer to it as an Irish Pub! ;-)

Two words PLEASE

I'm a native Houstonian, recently left Missouri City after two years there - you would think I would know these things.

To the blackboard for me - 500 times: Sugar Land
