Crossing over Deuteronomy 18:10
StarfireIV | 12/14/01 | StarfireIV

Greetings fellow freepers.
I am once again surprised at what passes for entertainment.
Have we actually stooped to...
Necromancy?!!
Let me explain. Deuteronomy, Chapter 18, verses 10-12 says....

10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.

11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee."

While perusing the channels, I came across what appeared to be a talk show. When I realized that this "psychic" was communicating with the deceased, I was, in a word, shocked.
The Random House Dictionary defines Necromancy as."1. a method of divination through alleged communication with the dead..."

Am I overreacting, or is this just more evidence that the Titanic is becoming an allegorical entity as well as an historic one?

The garbage that the masses consume on a daily basis never fails to amaze me! After a day of drudgery, the desire to sit in front of a television and be hypnotized by pabulum sanitized of any thought escapes me.

These days, any freak show will suffice. Hard to imagine a time when people read.

Wasn’t Temptation Island on?

Star. Are you talking about, 'Crossing Over'. That guy is fake. He was actually going to do one after 911 to find out what really happened. Then someone thought this might be in bad taste, so he backed off. I don`t watch it but I understand it has quite a following.

No you're not over reacting. Necromancy as:

"1. a method of divination through alleged communication with the dead..."

is defined correctly. Still, don't tell that who pray ot dead people such as Mary or other nonChristian relgions who want to be considered Christian. As you can see they don't follow the Word of God. It is the word of man they follow. Oh, I know, now that another criticism is stated, I'm a "Catholic basher". I suppose God is too. After all, a Christian follows Christ, not mere infallible mortals.

Hey, don't tell the Harry Potter folks that witchcraft and dabbling with spirits is bad. Nah, everyone else is reading the stuff and besides now little Johnny is finally interested and is reading about the occult, er Harry Potter. Don't you see, people don't give a hoot what God says. It's more important that they do what suits them rather than God.

Amazing how people shun His Word, isn't it ... .

There's a website that has exposed what this guy does... it's an old scam like 20 questions, but with the help of videotape and assistants priming his pump.

I haven't seen the website for this guy specifically, but I remember seeing a two hour series hosted by some guy (I want to say Amazing Randy, but I'm not sure) who spends his time disproving frauds like this. Some of the tricks they use are pretty interesting, when he shows how they do it. That and with these sort of people, they're very good at 1) leading gullible people with questions, 2) and very good at reading the most subtle reactions with people. Much how the professional poker players read a person's tell sign.

He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living.

Thank you for your reply. Did Moses and Elijah die before Jesus was crucified?

"Still, don't tell that who pray ot dead people such as Mary"

But that's the point, Mary isn't dead, she's very much alive in Heaven with all of the other saints as God is God of the living and not God of the dead.

Interesting how you defend christian mythology, like it is the only perspective. I remember reading about all the good done by the crusades and the spanish inquisition and the salem witch trials etc. in the name of the one and only true god. The vatican still retains the department of inquisition.

Deuteronomy 20:10 - 11

10 Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together.
11 Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woolen and linen together.

I agree, the end times are nigh. Give me that old time religion.

The dead are dead. If the guy is talking to anyone, he's talking to demons.

There will be PLENTY on this board who say you're nitpicking, because as we all know.. as long as it's entertaining to the majority of FReepers and as long as it's something popular that everybody else watches..it's ok. Wouldn't matter what the content was.. if enough people dug it, it's OK in their book...because it's just entertainment, right? Well I shudder every time I pass by that show, or even those stupid Miss Cleo ads. Because unlike some people, I believe the Bible when it says DON"T DO SOMETHING that is an abomination to the Lord. But I guess some people around here would rather give up their souls (and the souls of their kids) for a little entertainment.

In answer to your question, yes, Moses and Elijah passed over from 1,000 to 2,000 years before Jesus departed his flesh body.

Thank you. I was, of course, more closely examining the definition of Necromancy and how it was applied in the Christian religion.

The followup question would be: Would someone who communicated with them be a necromancer?

I guess they would. From what I can understand, and this is just my opinion, it is evident from the Bible that at one time, in our distant past, humans were able to see, communicate with, and interact with beings called angels, or "the son's of God". At one time Adam and Eve even perhaps saw God and walked with Him in the garden of Eden in the evenings.

In some parts of the Bible, no more thought, is given by the author, to the mention of speaking with angles, also called "watchers" than a person today would think mentioning speaking with someone over thousands of miles by phone should be considered odd or unusual. After the flood of Noah all communication stopped, other than for an occasional encounter by a prophet.

This is God's domain, speaking to men through angels, and it should not be corrupted in any way. An example of things that belong to God as a way of communication that have been corrupted by man is casting lots (dice), astrology, and trying to break through the veil placed between us and those that have passed.
