Actress Winona Ryder arrested for shoplifting [and drug possession]

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) -- Actress Winona Ryder has been arrested for possession of illegal drugs and shoplifting clothes from a Saks Fifth Avenue boutique, police said Thursday.

Security guards at the Wilshire Boulevard store detained the Oscar-nominated star of "Little Women" and "The Age of Innocence" about 7 p.m. Wednesday after they discovered her trying to steal "numerous items of clothing," Beverly Hills police Lt. Gary Gilmond said.

I remember seeing her several years ago on Charlie Rose. She was talking about how her Godfather was Timothy Leary and he died in her arms. Also, because she was raised in a commune by hippies and drugs she never had a desire to even try them. Seems things have changed for her. Too bad as she is a very talented girl.

Considering hollywoods usual reaction to these kinds of events, she'll probably get more role opportunities than she can shake a stick at. Great publicity stunt!

If not, let's hope she doesn't go down the same path as another "fine" young actress....
