The USS RUSSELL (DDG-59) does not have a helo hangar and therefore doesn't carry a LAMPS helo. The newest of the class the USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG-79)and all after have a hangar and will carry an embarked LAMPS Det. As to the SAR helos at Diego Garcia, they may be Brit SH-3 or LYNX helos. I don't remember seeing any US rotary wings there.

Excellent. Bummer about losing the plane, but that ain't jack compared to the guys flying. I'm glad they're safe!

I didn't realize it was an Arleigh Burke class.
They were just getting read to build them when I got out and we all just scratched our heads when they said they had no helo hanger.
