Journalists and reporters,
in addition to being generally leftists,
and ass-kissers,
tend to be rather dumb.
It reminds of what Rush often says: "The purpose of the military is to kill people and break things."
The left and the press still don't get it, and I imagine they are just aghast when a military leader speaks the plain truth of what their duty is – plainly.
They are like Rodney Kings with notepads.
