Chelsea in Oxford
by Daniel Swift
In his Oxford days, Bill Clinton was famously antiwar. Since her arrival at the university to study international relations, his daughter, Chelsea, has been waging war from behind the newly reinforced bullet-proof glass windows of her Oxford dorm room. She and her Secret Service guards disrupted an antiwar rally in the town hall, heckling the speakers and waving American flags. And then there's the piece in Talk magazine. In the most recent issue of the glossy New York mag--the cover is dominated by Gwyneth Paltrow's shiny décolletage--Chelsea complains that "every day I encounter some sort of anti-American feeling. Sometimes it's from other students, sometimes it's from a newspaper columnist, sometimes it's from 'peace' demonstrators only a few blocks from where I live." This anti-Americanism has led her to avoid English students and spend her time with other Americans in Oxford. The inverted commas around "peace" suggest that Chelsea has little time for the antiwar movement. She goes on to explain exactly what she thinks of these demonstrators: "Many question whether the evidence pointing to Osama bin Laden is accurate and conclusive. Others wonder whether America has any genuine concern for the plight of the Afghan people. I bristle at these suggestions. The idea that anyone believes America would enter into this conflict capriciously boggles my mind, and the notion that the United States is acting without regard to the Afghan people is offensive. Finally, the suggestion that America was too quick to respond, or that the United States should for some reason not employ its right to self-defense, is an assault in itself." At the risk of bristling Ms. Clinton, there are many who doubt America's new war on terror. She suggests that questioning the bombing, or even debating the merits of US policy, is the same as an attack on the United States. But the debate is already open. More than a month ago, the Britain-based charities Oxfam and Christian Aid called for a pause in the bombing so that humanitarian supplies could get through. The UN has estimated that there are seven and a half million Afghan refugees dependent on aid to survive. The New York Times has reported at length on how the bombing has disrupted critical relief effort. Chelsea's tortured scheme of moral equivalency doesn't seem to recognize these factors. The English school of IR theory is more skeptical however. It's typified by Hedley Bull's famous statement in The Anarchical Society, which has become a textbook for English IR: "I believe that inquiry has its own morality and is necessarily subversive of political institutions of all kinds, good as well as bad." This doubting voice underpins the classical model of IR taught at Oxford.
Chelsea is going to have a tough time at Oxford if she bristles at skepticism toward US policy. According to the syllabus, in her first year she is required to take a course on "the origins and course of the Cold War" and "the place of law, of rules generally, and of moral concepts, in international relations"; in her second year, she will choose an optional subject from a list that includes "The International Relations of the Middle East," "The United States in International Relations since 1945" and "The International Relations of Latin America." These courses won't make much sense without mention of Nicaragua or El Salvador, of America's special relationship with Israel, of America's disregard for the UN or even of America's support of the Taliban. Ms. Clinton has been widely feted in Britain. Tatler magazine named her as one of England's ten most eligible women. But the anti-Americanism she has found in Oxford is not simply snobbery. There have been antiwar demonstrations throughout England in the last month, including one in Hyde Park on October 13 which drew more than 20,000 people. The bombing of Afghanistan has been regularly attacked in the English media. Oxford may be anti-American, but no more than the rest of world: like Paris, perhaps? Or Teheran? If, as has been widely suggested, this is the first step of a run for office, we should watch her words.

Thanks for your insight to the fabrications of Chelsea in the attempt to remake her into something else!
Re her not going into the flow of fleeing people leaving the area around the towers. How many million or hundreds of thousands of people had to leave that area?
Re her memory and 9/11. My wife and I were as far away as you can get in the lower 48 on 9/11. We were on vacation on the coast of Oregon.
The drive down south on the coast that day was surreal even out there. There was no bomb disaster, but the vacant stores in towns, closed for 9/11. Restaurants which are normally jammed, basically empty or closed. The sudden appearance of flags on bikers and cars (we knew nothing about the flags until we got back to California). Panic gas buying in Brookings, Or. with the station manager showing a psycho customer his Glock in a holster under his jacket as he refused to fill plastic water jugs with gasoline.
Even 3,000 miles away, I could fill up a page of different events in different locations, remembered like it was yesterday. So you are exactly right about " This is a cold attempt to create the MYTH of CHELSEA for some future use. She is doing this on the backs of those who were there."
So typical of her family traditions and genetics to create a myth of the backs of those who were there and have to live with that all of their lives! Thanks for your input!

I also keep seeing visions of Chelsea actively engaging Yasser Arafat at Camp David during one of Clinton's efforts at Middle East peace. You mean this time? Doing research for some paper she had to write, no doubt.

Hello,Blue bell.I think Chelsea is feeling which way the wind is blowing, and knowing her Fathers Anti America speeches arent going over well. Her mother has backed off the AntiAmerica rhetoric as well. Its not conviction, its acting the way they think will allow us to forget just how sleazy the entire family is.It drives me nuts to see the flag lapel pins on chelsea and hillary knowing they hate America.

Hi! Yep, I agree, I'll never trust a clinton, and I agree with previous posters who've remarked that this is just laying down some background for her future political life. We'll never be free of the clinton scourge, I'm afraid.

My daughter goes to school in London & she too has experienced anti-American sentiment. (That is ALL she & Chelsea have in common).

You posted, "

I remember even some liberals complaining about a 21 year old kid daring to mess with the lives of the Israelis as she and her old man tried to get his legacy! The peace in the Middle East at what ever cost to Israel!
That was very scary to me and a look into the future, 20 years down the road! Entitled, "Spawn of Hilldebeast, terrorizes conservatives in 2021!"

If you look at a photo of x-42's father, named Blythe (can't think of his first name), it's obvious that Chelsea inherited that man's looks. She's the image of the Blythe grandfather.Do not concur. From a Pennsylvania newspaper (1998):
Who Is Clinton's Father? The N.Y. Daily News reported that Rush & Molloy's lead item asks who Clinton's father really is. This much is known. Clinton was born to a woman named Virginia Cassidy of Hope, Arkansas. The official biography claims that an intinerant salesman named William Blythe married the young Cassidy, and was the father of William Jefferson Blythe, who was born on August 19, 1946.
Rush & Molloy quote David Maraniss, a Washington Post writer and author of the 1995 Clinton bio "First in His Class." Maraniss notes that nine months before Clinton was born, Blythe was serving with the Army in Italy. Blythe only returned states' some six months BEFORE the birth. Get the picture. Clinton's mother was asked about this anonmaly and her response was Clintonesque. She told reporters back in 1992 that she wanted Bill so badly she "pushed" hard for an early labor.
Maraniss now tells Rush & Molloy that after the publication of his book, he was contacted by a Louisiana family. Family members claim that one of their male relations had a love affair with a young Virginia Cassidy at the time Clinton was conceived. The Louisiana family knew too many details about Virginia to have made up the story. "I don't think it was a fraud," Maraniss tells Rush & Molloy.
That's one theory. Folks in Hope have been talking about Clinton's real father for quite some time. If you visit the town's museum, housed in an old railway station, several pictures appear of Virginia with a man purported to be her husband William Blythe. When one visitor remarked that the older Blythe just bore no resemblance to the reputed son, the docent in charge suggested to the visitor in an ironic tone, "You just keep looking at that photo, you'll find all sorts of resemblances ..."
Another writer who couldn't find any resemblances was the American Spectator's R. Emmett Tyrrell. Tyrrell wrote in his best-seller "Boy Clinton" that one theory about Blythe's fatherhood goes like this: Virginia had an affair, one of many, before marriage. She got pregnant. She had her baby. Back then, having an out-of-wedlock baby carried a stigma. To solve that problem, one of Virginia's family or friends at the county morgue found someone of her approximate age who had died recently. Virginia was "married" to the man. As it turns out, Blythe died shortly before Clinton's birth in a car accident near Hope.

Yep! That was the meeting for the new Clinton on the block.
Do you have the picture of her, where she was drunk on her clymer with the Arab prince or emir or ? at that meeting. She was hammered and so was he. The piece he was interested in was spelled different than "peace"!

Chelsea's learned well from her parents -- say what most Americans want to hear -- then do something different. She could always QUIT Oxford and transfer to Brigham Young or Brian Jones U. for cripes sake! Sure! No, she'll do her little anti-American thing over there, all the while pretending like anti-Americanism really bothers her. I don't trust her any more than I do her parents.

Chelsea's lyin' thru her teeth.
Just as her mom is now all of a sudden 'outraged' at Arafat & the PLO.
These are the same people who referred to the one's protecting their hides while occupying the White House as "trained pigs".
The same people who showed overt, blatant contempt & disgust for anyone in an American military uniform. (And who uses the word "bristle" anyway?)

LOL! You hit the nail just right.
Oh, and Hilly's grandpa was Jewish, right?
To: texasbluebell
Thank you!
Can't you just hear the African Prince suggesting to the drunk Chelsea, "You all monica me, and I help yo daddy get his legacy!"
Chelsea, to herself, "The things that Mommy Dearest and I have to do for Daddy! Oh well, what the hell!"
What a great picture, about as good as the ones of her in Colorado Springs acting like Jake Reno in the bar!

Please post that picture.Unfortunately, that's one that has gone unrecorded on film.

Well I cain't believe the kids of Liberal Demorats. Especially the girls. Now Amy Carter palled around with Abbie Hoffman, which probably sent shivers up Jimmy's spine. Now Chelsea is against the anti-war demonstrations in London. What??? To much noise when she be hungover or what???. I thought for sure she would be in the midst of any anti-war protests, but she does not operate under the fear of getting drafted and dodging the draft like DADDY did! So I guess she has no vested interest. Like hey say , at least Jane Fonda went to Vietnam, which is more than daddy had the guts to do
