Survey finds 10 partners before marriage 'normal'

Survey finds 10 partners before marriage 'normal'

The majority of young people think it is normal for a person to have at least 10 sexual partners before marriage.

A survey has also found that three in 10 believe it is acceptable for a girl to lose her virginity before the age of 15.

Research carried out by Brook, the youth sex advisory service, says there is a "cultural change" in young people's attitudes towards sex.

Some 64% of men and 54% of women agreed that it was acceptable for a person to sleep with more than 10 partners before getting married.

But the survey, which questioned people aged 17 to 25, also showed that they wanted more information about sex and contraception.

Men admitted to getting most of their knowledge about contraception from TV and magazines, while women learned the most from magazines and their mothers.

Half of all the young women surveyed said they wished that teachers had supplied them with more information about preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Brook chief executive Jan Barlow said: "Young people have an increasing number of sexual partners and they are saying that's OK.

"But at the same time they don't have the information and access to services that they need.

"Young people must seek out advice and information in order to make their choices and to understand how to protect themselves both against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases."

Bottom line is, you're telling me that human nature has a "double standard", and you're complaining about it. Sorry, but there's nothing I can do about human nature.

Like I stated, my husband was able to rise above human nature and realize he wanted the same gift from his spouse that he himself was giving.

That's swell.

I wish that we could alter human nature.

Right on.

I find it sad that women are willing to accept that men are just men and that the gift of purity should be both ways; not just a gift the woman gives the man.

But don't you realize you are supposed to walk around expecting everyone to "mentally rise above" human nature, and when they don't, tell them that they "stink"?

You know what? I used to cringe sometimes when my mother would explain my father's behavior with "It's the nature of the beast." As I have aged, I have a gained a much better understanding of exactly what she was talking about!

That is what these virgin seekers fear: being compared and found inadequate.

Exactly. They can be lazy in bed and the poor wman won't know any better.

I'm 42 years old and I still wouldn't accept it even at this age.

Hey, so do I! The difference is that I don't try, or expect to be successful at it. You do, and anyone who reminds you that it's not possible "stinks".

By the way you still haven't told me what exactly I've said that "shames women". All you've done is told me a nice story about your husband rising above human nature.

Which is good for you and all, but what about all the other women out there who will follow your lead, expect their mates to be able to do the same, and be disappointed? All I'm saying is that there is very little to be gained, and lots to be lost, from this stubborn refusal to acknowledge reality.

Gee, Bella, you are being awfully defensive.

Honestly, I am glad I have had sexual experience. I am glad my honey has too.

Sexual experience is one thing; lots of it is another. I realize that some men think the latter is important, but I don't think it's common.

And I think the men that may worry about their performance are the ones that think intercourse is enough to keep the little lady happy.

Actually, I agree with you. But I think men often put much more emphasis on it than women do.

(P.S. by "not possible", I mean not possible in general. I realize that there are exceptions, such as your husband.... :)

Just wait until spring break next year. All stats will be floating in the air.

Its matter of self respect and respect for each other.

You are saying that women are easy? I thought that was a characteristic of the guys.

You seem to have misunderstood. You can't seriously be arguing that Changing Human Nature In Everyone Around You, And Saying That They "Stink" If They Fail, is a matter of self respect and respect for you and your husband.
