Well, I propose that the parents shoudl have the right of choice regarding whether to abort the fetus, but thats a whole entire arguement altogether. Elian's father was in this country. In the "picture perfect ending" he would have obtained custody of his boy and then immediately sought asylum for the both of them, but it didnt happen that way. Jose Miguel could choose to reject a chance for freedom, much the same way that you or I could choose to reprort our every action to the authorities and thereby reject our own freedom (without, mind you, requiring every other man and woman to follow suit)

Only to have scumbag's flunky, Greg Craig, and a host of other shifty creatures pull strings to get freakin' federal storm troopers with machine guns to kidnap 6 year-old Elian from a private home and send him back! And you're okay with this. Wow.

Post 83 "...Jose Miguel..."

I am sorry, TETT, but you made your lack of knowledge on the subject of Elian obvious from the beginning. If you only understood what life in Cuba is like, and if you only knew that anyone such as Juan Miguel would never be allowed to come to America, unless he was under the control of the Cuban government, then you would see that this was more than just a parental rights case. But the problem is not your lack of knowledge of the situation. It's your ideals.

TETT, you are pro-choice. Whether in abortion, or custody, or habitat, you are pro-choice. We know that now. Everyone else on this thread, is pro-life/liberty/pursuit of happiness. You figure that if someone else wants to kill their son, then that is their choice, and it should happen. But you know what? If that child were to come back to life, screaming in their own pool of blood, then they would renounce all their murderers... their parents, the courts, the abortion clinic... all of them. They would wish the choice was never allowed to be made. And likewise, if Elian ever came back to America, he would renounce everyone who sent him over... the courts, the INS agents, the stormtroopers, the pilot, the voodoo people, the crazy people, the Clinton administration, the little statue of Eleggua, maybe even his father. Because life in Cuba sucks. And being drugged sucks. And having a high-powered rifle thrust in your face, that sucks too. So does social indoctrination, plantation life, and growing up knowing that for a little while, you were free, but no longer.

p.s. Elian wasn't being held hostage by crazy people in Miami. He was with his family. His cousin, his uncle, family. There wasn't anything wrong with that.
