PARIS (AP) -- The Paris city council has named U.S. death row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal, convicted for the 1981 slaying of a police officer, as an honorary citizen of Paris.

The show of solidarity with Abu-Jamal, a former Black Panther and journalist, came in a vote Tuesday in the wake of the Nov. 21 decision by a Philadelphia court, which said it did not have jurisdiction over a request for a new trial.

Picasso was a scumbag. Abu-Jamal is a scumbag.

It'll be news only when Paris names a decent human being as an honorary citizen.

It isn't the people of France. It's the politicians in Paris.

Thank God, people didn't want to declare war on the US just because Klintoon and Company where in charge.

No surprise there. Paris has the largest muslim population outside of the middle east.

I wouldn't be shocked if they erected a statue of that scumbag either.

The people of Paris love cop killers.

Don't worry, they're about to get theirs. The new socialist 35-hour work week law is starting to backfire, and the rings of ethnic housing projects around Paris are on the edge of complete anarchic riots, which will explode into the city itself. Paris is going to be one nasty place to live pretty soon.

The left has succeeded in turning him into a victim/hero.

It's not surprising that the leftist message triumphed.

They couldn't win here so they invested all their time convincing foreigners and the French only heard one side of the story.

Much like the leftists convinced the outside world of the evils of apartheid in South Africa.

Facts never matter. What succeeds are the lies and incessant propaganda.

I think so, but then we have to spread his ashes from the Eiffel Tower. They don't want the Germans desecrating his corpse the next time they come through town.

Jean Vuillermoz, leader of the Communist Party grouping on the council, said the decision by the council follows "alarming news" about Abu-Jamal.

Communist Party, huh? That's a pretty good clue as to what the whole "Mumia is a victim of racism scam" is all about.
