Skip the states and move to San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. You know, if Mexico allowed ownership of property by gringos, I probably would do something like that. I could live like a king in Mexico and besides, turnabout is fair play.
If the illegals want to come north, gringos with money should move south and take it over.

DO NOT MOVE TO MEXICO. Unless you like the idea of having a government official decide your property deed is no good. This even happens to Mexicans.

Property can (not that I would recommend it) be owned by Gringos as long as it is not within 40 or so miles of the border, or of the coast line. So San Miguel is OK.

if Mexico allowed ownership of property by gringos, I probably would do something like that. Then you get into the two schools of thought about property ownership. It depends on what you want...i.e., will you stand to gain capital by owning a modest home in a retirement community, etc.
If what you want is low-cost living among beautiful surroundings, warm people, and colorful culture, go to Mexico...better yet, Portugal! (Check into it!)
If you want to play bingo and shuffleboard, ride in a golf cart to the grocery store, and talk about your health problems, go to the southwest U.S.
...Just havin' fun with you! :)

Gringos can own property in Mexico...Fee simple inland and away from border. By bank trust in the restricted zone...
