JimRob can't be expected to police every thread. But the rank, appalling racism of some comments made during the discussion of the Adams Mark lawsuit really is quite beyond the pale. Your thoughts?

The mistake is that all fraternities are treated this way. The fact they are black fraternities seems to make them think it was just them.

Telling the truth about the way many young black people like to behave is hardly racist.
Musicians who are wildly popular among this demographic celebrate this behavior incessantly. No one calls them "racist" or "self-hating".
If young blacks don't want to be criticized for savage behavior, then they had better clean up their own act rather than whining about racism.
40% of the violent crimes in this country are committed by 1% of the population - young black males. That's not a racist fantasy, that's a cold, hard fact.

You may well have a point, Appy. Indeed, if I ran a hotel and something like a Freaknik were in the offing, I might well shut down for "renovations" for the week!
Still, the whole thing smacks of racism--I don't know of evidence that any white groups were treated this way. Perhaps it really wasn't racism, but I can easily see why the victims thought so. And they may well have been right.
In any case, a debate about the matter shouldn't degenerate into the kind of nasty stereotype-slinging that goes on in the aforementioned thread. Ever wonder why few blacks would be caught dead hanging with conservatives? This is why.

My thoughts are "This thread has been deleted."
How about hitting the effing abuse button instead of starting a thread about it? Sheesh.

I have not read the thread you're complaining about, but instead of starting a whole thread and wasting a lot of bandwidth, why didn't you just hit the abuse button on the offending posts? If a thread is bad enough over-all, they will usually delete the thread. Or do you just want to make freepers as a group seem bad?
To: ArcLight
Running rampant? I saw the first page before the thread was deleted. Maybe one comment was out of line, maybe, and it was removed.

How about some examples of what you mean by racist remarks?

Come to think of it, we were treated this way by the hotel at the Jimmy Buffet concert at Carowinds. Of course, it was warranted because the place got trashed.
Spring Break is a huge ripoff on every college campus. The BC breaks are no different than Spring Break at Ft Liquordale and Daytona Beach before they wised up and shut them down.
To: ArcLight
Ever wonder why few blacks would be caught dead hanging with conservatives? Do you mean they would get shot by other blacks, because this surely is the kind of treatment Keyes and most other conservative blacks are receiving from racist blacks.
To: gjenkins
I'm sorry, but the "N" word comes to mind when looking at the pictures#68 in the thread

I might well shut down for "renovations" for the week! And what would you do when the city wouldn't let you close? And don't say it can't happen: it happened in Virginia Beach every single time they had their weekend up there.

Well i can't view the original thread since it has been deleted. But racism sure gets thrown around without a lot of thought by many people on FR - mostly from what I've seen in an attempt to silence the other side rather than argue the facts.

Rasicm, The Dark Side Of FRThe title to a book: "Colored Views: The Black Heart of Racism."
To: lavaroise
Actually, I worked with a Kappa and he said they no longer went to the big BC events because the locals would roll in and cause trouble. Then the BC frats got the blame. Freaknik has become the worst of the events. Probably half the people involved aren't even in college.

It's a little hard to comment on this, since the thread you linked to has been deleted. Can someone post the article, or a link to it, so we know what this is about?

Free speech does not include the right not to be offended.
I don't believe that complex problems will ever be solved until and unless people are to free say what they really what to say, totally unrestricted.
There will always be a couple people who will use offensive language but people should fight with ideas not censorship.
I can understand FRs desire not to be linked with racists but ideas need to be expressed. Bad ideas will be exposed by virtue of open and honest words and ideas.
If FR wants to buffer itself, make it clear that the views of individuals are those of the individuals.
Frankly, Im fed up with people being kicked and banned and posts pulled and individual messages pulled simply because someone was apparently offended. I think the abuse button is used far too often to intimidate people.
Censorship is wrong. Thats why we have the first amendment.
To: ArcLight
It's free speech, but I agree fully.
The only good defense against ignorance and racism, is a good offense. So if you read a comment from somebody who's obviously wearing a white hood, fire back!

I've heard a similar number, and it is troubling.
One part of the problem is the culture of low income minorities, no doubt. Whites had a dominant role in creating that culture.
Personal responsibility is great and all, and the white landowners who enslaved most of the ancestors of these people didn't seem to know a damn thing about it.
