Wasn"t there a article a couple of days ago here that said OBL had purchased thousands of gas masks and hazmat outfits. Couldn't they just put them on and sit and wait for the gas to clear?

Sure...they could do that. We could also introduce a gas to disable the masks...clog the filters...wonder how many spares they have?

not if the gas displaces oxygen.

Plus, in addition to what some others have said, I'm pretty sure no single type of gas mask works for every chemical and biological agent. So "all" we'd have to do is hit 'em with a mix of gases.
