I don't see Time wanting to take the backlash from naming OBL man of the year. Is there a requirement that you have to live through the whole year to be named man of the year? Just curious. In honor of OBL maybe they should name an Afghanistan woman man of the year.

make me puke, why glorify the jerk?

oh my, X! i beg to differ with you! i believe that president bush had FAR more and more far-reaching influence than did bin laden this year. you may not see 'times man of the year' as a good thing, but i believe the liberal, anti-american times magazine editors do. imo, they will make this decision to choose bin laden in order to belittle and insult our president.
there now, that didn't burn too much, did it? ;)

Has Al Sharpton or Jesee made the cut? Or how about Farrakahn trying to rally US Muslams to go to war internally?
My news magazine is Human Events BTW.

Hehe. :) In some ways you may be right... but I have to go back and think about how Bin Laden/911 brought many of the countries of the world together (temporarily, at least) and we have had our economy directly effected, politics, etc. directly impacted by that. Even our merchandise/fashion has been changed into red, white, and blue patriotism.
Then again, Gore probably would not have done much at all, so there wouldn't be so much patriotism. ;-)

With the lead time it takes for the Person of the Year issue, Time would be taking a big risk naming OBL - he may very well be dead by the time the mag comes out and they will look ridiculous putting him on the cover.
I hope there are some people at Time sensible enough to understand what a PR coup they will be giving OBL if they choose him. On the other hand, it will be devastating to his cause if they do something like make Americans People of the Year. I'd like to see a cover photo of one of the candlelight vigils from Sept. 12, or the Congress standing on the Capitol steps singing God Bless America.
I don't care what the "tradition" of Time has been - these are extraordinary times that have been met in extraordinary ways by every American. I say it's Americans as People of the Year!
I personally do not favor Giuliani because I am tired of the 189 people killed at the Pentagon being forgotten.

Yeah-- I knew it too. I have only one thing to say to Time magazine-- you're either with us, or you're with the terrorists. There is no middle ground, so make your choice carefully.

I will guess that Time will call it "The Year of the Hero" and feature the passengers of flight 93, FDNY, NYPD, PANY, EMS crews, etc. etc. Maybe also Rudy. It will be a collective award, not to one person.

What, no hillary? How can this be? Somebody is gonna pay big time, ala vince foster.

I think it was given to Hitler well before the world became aware of his atrocities. Everyone has seen osama's atrocities first hand. I don't think you can correlate the two.
