I'm an Christian myself but I could never stomach TBN with its over-the-top gold-gilded sets, weepy prayers and pleas for money, Jan Crouch's strange wig and makeup job, and the $1,500 suit-wearing, hair-sprayed evangelists periodically appearing. It's really a caricature of itself.
I wonder how Jesus would feel about a minister of the gospel pleading for money and then buying thousand-dollar suits and million dollar mansions?

I am as much a capitalist as anyone...but has anyone observed that Jesus never owned a house a boat or a donkey....and that he once observed " ... The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head."Matthew 8:20
Somehow I doubt that he would have a room at that inn eithor......
Please give money to your local churches...raise your overworked Pastors salary...buy new Sunday School books for the kids....send it to your denomination missions....PLEASE do not send it to the new age Bakers...
how soon we forget..

Hasn't it occurred to anyone that this could be one of the reasons Christians, and especially vocal, fundamentalist Christians, get such a bad rap? You don't see rabbis, mullahs, or even priests acting like that do you? A lot of people see this sort of thing, and stereotype other fundamentalists or those that are vocal about their beliefs. This sometimes highly vocal behavior is not seen that much in the more eastern religions. Before I get blasted by a bunch of freepers telling me they aren't like this, please note that I am not accusing anyone of this, it's just an observation.

Anyone who "gives" to the church as a "seed money" investment deserves to be taken in by frauds. They are just as fraudulent themselves.

Televangelists JAN and PAUL CROUCH... have purchased a Newport Beach house for close to $5 million, Orange County Realtors say. Look on the bright side... $5 mil doesn't buy much in Newport Beach.

i am a pentecostal christian. i have had problems with this also. i believe in donating, and ibelieve in reaping and sowing. but when televangelists buy million dollar homes, it is hard to explain this. but please don't condemn all christians and pray for those that do give with right motivations.

Is this the woman with the huge pinkish hair and 10 lbs of makeup? She's really hideous. Makes Tammy Faye look modest.

I'm getting a kick out of all these comments. LOL! Now I want to defend Paul & Jan Crouch. I used to watch them religiously when I lived in Seattle area. They are PENTECOSTAL and sometimes one needs a little extra OOOMPH! Paul is a gifted businessman, I'll grant you that. Jan is just a sweet lady who has odd ideas about how to dress and do her makeup. For victory & freedom!!!

You know, I can't help but think of the Genesis song,
Jesus, He Knows Me:
Do you see the face on the TV screen
coming at you every Sunday
see that face on the billboard
that man is me On the cover of the magazine
there's no question why I'm smiling
you buy a piece of paradise
you buy a piece of me
I'll get you everything you wanted
I'll get you everything you need
don't need to believe in hereafter
just believe in me
Cos Jesus he knows me
and he knows I'm right
I've been talking to Jesus all my life
oh yes he knos me
and he knos I'm right
and he's been telling me
everything is alright
I believe in the family
with my ever loving wife beside me
but she don't know about my girlfriend
or the man I met last night
Do you believe in God
cos that's what I'm selling
and if you wanna go to heaven
I'll see you right
You won't even have to leave your house
or get out of your chair
you don't even have to touch that dial
cos I'm everywhere
Won't find me practising what I'm preaching
won't find me making no sacrifice
but I can get you a pocketful of miracles
if you promise to be good, try to be nice
God will take good care of you
just do as I say, don't do as I do
I'm counting my blessings,
I've found true happiness
cos I'm getting richer, day by day
you can find me in the phone book,
just call my toll free number
you can do it anyway you want
just do it right away
There'll be no doubt in your mind
you'll believe everything I'm saying
if wanna get closer to Him
get on your knees and start paying

So? There is worse fraud out there. Talk about clinton policies that are made in good wishes and fake promises. What about that? America needs to wake up, false prophets abound.

Gee...where are all the fundies? I felt sure there would be some here would would blast us for "bashing Christians" ("if you bash Jan and Paul, you bash all Christians everywhere!"). There must be a Harry Potter book-burning that's keeping them away from their computers today. ;-) LOL
