Like he wasn't going to nationalize the canal anyway? Another example of somehow trying to link everything to America.

Interesting post, but it only contains part of the story. So many of the US's Cold War warriors were so-called reformed commies who led us into one debacle after another. In the meanwhile the Commies were as busy as termites throughout the world trying to destroy civilization as we know it. In many cases these were two sides of the same coin without a dimes worth of morality between them.
