A fertilized ovum en utero has a potential of being born alive unless miscarried or aborted.

A fertilized ovum in a petrie dish is arguably to many another matter.

I think Bush said it well when he declared last week that we should not be in the business of destroying human life in order to improve the life of the living or something to that effect.

Well, I agree that we shouldn't destroy people to help other people.

The point of disagreement is what constitutes a person.

Generally yes. But with a little assistance so can some poorly-differentiated cells from my digestive track.

Why should the utero distinction matter? There is nothing so magical about the uterus such that passing out of it bestows the right to live.
