That's a good quote. However, the situation described therein has existed since mankind has had governments and goods and services to buy and sell.

There's nothing new under the sun, and a society totally given to the virtues of fairness is only a myth in this world.

Condesension is usually the second argument among the faithful. You are really disapointing me.

And it's the first and final refuge of the faithless. Don't worry about disappointing me though. I know better than to expect much from the faithless in the first place.

What we have here boils down to a very simple argument. Respect for the KNOWN, versus respect for the UNKNOWN, but hoped for.

Actually, it's more along the line that you believe nothing exists but that which you know and can percieve via the limited senses and reason of a human.

By suggesting that I fear faith, you suggest that I fear what I do not need.

No, you clearly fear what you can't understand.

I dont need faith to inhale and know that whether I get air into my lungs or not, that air is a fact. No faith required. No hope needed. Nothing to fear.

Yes, you can breathe without faith. So can most animals. Rising above the animals is where faith becomes important.

Faith exists because for some the alternative is unacceptable.

No, but because we've allowed ourselves to percieve something greater than ourselves, in this case, a God who has revealed Himself to us.

I could accept a God, that I somehow missed.

I don't think you are capable of believing in anything greater than yourself. We call this self-idolatry. Fortunately, there is a cure in faith.

Can you accept the lack of one, that you somehow imagined?

I'm sorry, but this is a tad incoherent. I can answer the first part, yes I could concieve of the lack of one, I'd just need to place all of my faith into the idea that the universe was just some sort of meaningless accident.

At least my God raises from the dead. I doubt your Holy Accident will do much for you.

That is the conundrum, my friend. Either is acceptable to me, but you are trapped in a situation where you being wrong unacceptable.

You are a most intellectually dishonest person, my friend. I have been in your situation and learned better while you cannot comprehend the God that made you.

It is this alone that makes your argument lacking in substance.

If incoherence were a rebuttal, you might have something but you do not.

You are compelled; where I am free to reason.

My eyes are open. It is you who have closed yours.

It is as Pascal said, we all have a God-shaped hole within us but we choose what we shall use to fill it. I hope that someday you will choose something other than the nothing that resides there now.

If somebody wants to amass great wealth, they work for it, hey, all the power to them. There are people of wealth who are decent folks.

Then there are those whom 1Timothy 6:10 clearly addresses.

Hi there. Long time no debate. Have you read the entire piece yet?

What do you want to talk about, riley?

Envy is the root of evil...

There's no envy here. I bear no grudge towards people of wealth.

Too many people misquote the Bible.

I know. Their liberal high school teachers told them what the Bible says and means, and these "wise men" foolishly repeat the same nonsense over and over again........

Next we'll be seeing a thread on the lines of "God helps those who help themselves...."

...or the old standby, "Let he who is without sin cast............."

Run for your life from any man who tells you that [the 'love' of] money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter.

Did I read the article?........I'm wondering if you can read at all, by your responses.

The most hilarious thing to me is the title of the article. I get the feeling Orion78 found out for the first time today what the passage really means.

I'm not sure what is so hilarious. You do realize that the title is the first quote from the speech as it is written in the book?

Even though I'm a devoted Christian, Ayn Rand is
one of my favorite authors. Her view on independence, free will and
creative thought are awesome. I love the books "Anthem"
and "Fountainhead".

Your condesension is amazing, as though you, via faith no doubt, have learned some secret.

Perhaps you forget that we began with poor little Rand's statement about Buckley being too smart to believe in God.

I won't deny you your arrogance. Lacking faith, it is all you have.

They are sorely mistaken, as usual.

18:24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

18:25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

Undoubtably, there are those Freepers who would call Jesus a "commie" for uttering this statement. They like to take everything out of context........
