I noticed an irrational hatred of all things libertarian, and Harry Brown in particular by some of the more government loving members of FR.

Speaking for myself, it's not that I hate - or even disagree with - much of libertarian thought, but that the Libertarian Party is such a staggeringly inept body that it blocks any hope of a libertarian future. Harry Browne et al seem content to 'lecture and lose', which is not what political parties are about.

Here lays the problem. Libertarians do not like strong government, therefore if they create one, they will lose their base. Also, the media and the power infrastructure do not like Libertarians, so they will lean against them. There's two big whammies.

Sadly, this is true, but I was refering to the drug warrior types who sleep until the word "libertarian" is mentioned and then start frothing at the mouth when I mentioned irrational hatred

Can't say I see how this is the case. When the general public can't define a right, in the constitutional sense, they have lost their freedoms (because they don't know they have them).

How do you propose to explain to people the founding principles of the country, and that political issues are based on principles? (i.e. laws) (not "yeah, but it's different because that was 225 years ago")

The Libertarians are doing everything they can to get the word out. The Republicrats have entrenched their own power with ballot access laws to prevent third parties like Libertarians from getting much-needed exposure at debates and such. The government-media complex refused to cover Harry Browne's voting totals during the election, for example, but covered Buchanan's results, even when Browne beat Buchanan. The point I'm making is that traditional methods of reaching people are blocked.

'Lectures' such as these are needed to wake people up, and are one of the few ways left to get the word out.

Or do you have a better way? If politics are to be about something other than principle, then I'd rather not take part in the dialectic brainwashing.
