November 24, 2001 -- Is Harry Potter the spawn of Satan?
That's the opinion at one Christian school in southern Australia, where parents voted yesterday to forbid students from reading about the bespectacled wizard and his preteen cohorts.
The vote was just part of a widespread anti-Harry backlash by religious conservatives angered by the best-selling books' blatant celebration of witchcraft and the occult.

You can not tell the difference between an act of God and witchcraft..you believe in praying for the dead (witchcraft)
Last post for today... g'nite. :)
So just who did you pray to that your mother ,who was dead and judged was 'with god?'Did you think your prayer would make a difference?
If that is the type of "compassion" your church and god teach..then I NEVER WANT ANY PART OF IT. The God I believe in is one of comforting. He knows how much we hurt when we lose someone. His Own Son Jesus CRIED OUT LOUD when Lazarus died. Grief IS COMFORTED by prayer.
That was the most evil cruelest thing I've ever read on this forum. God forgive you!!
No may God forgive you for your false compassion and love. You congratulate the lost and tell him a lie from the pit of hell..that he is a christian..implying that he need not come to Christ..then you offer false compassion for real grief.. Grief is comforted by prayer..but not a false prayer that God will not hear or respond to..but prayer for the broken and hurt the lost and lonely..
My 17 month old grandson died last summer..the prayer that we needed, and was heard by God was for our peace..not his soul..
You offer a false gospel and like the approval and smiles of those that agree with you.
Gal. 1:8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
1:9As we said before, so say I now again, If any [man] preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Acts is not fiction; it is a book of history. HP is fiction. It's really a very clear distinction.
And would you tell me what the metaphor is in HP?
I would call it "talent" or "power" (such as political power). HP has a special gift and he chooses to use it for good and not for personal gain. The metaphor is that many of us have special talents, gifts, or opportunities. We also have choices about how to use our gifts. Fiction often explores this theme.
But, if you can't see the difference between Acts and HP, you probably won't get the metaphor either. :o(
My daughter has grown into an adult, who is also a FREEPER! LOL Dhe and her husband are thinking about starting a family, and she recently told me that children MUST be raised correctly and this includes being taken to church, and knowing GOD. Unlike some people, who imagine that only THEY can explain what GOD means, I know that she and her husband won't be that arrogant and superficial.
" A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM " is a good play, and should be seen. There are two movies ( I haven't seen the most recent one yet ) , the first one has Mickey Rooney as PUCK, Jimmy Cagney as BOTTOM, and a cast of super stars ! Though not all that complete, it's a good film. I've seen the play performed many times, and have read it several times. You should both read and see it. I think that you will enjoy it.
May GOD bless and always walk with you. : - )
No acts is the word of God..it is the exact truth..perfect in every detail..and it supports the rest of scripture in telling us that witchcraft exists and God hates it..
Harry Potter is Americas answer to 9/11
But you are so much smarter and more worldly that I...I am sure you already figured out what that metaphor from God stood for huh?
I suggest kids DO get it -- as do parents who object.
May I suggest that it is YOU who is in denial?
You said "the prayer that we needed" and there in lies the giest of it all.. you got the "prayers YOU needed". God answers many prayers in for many different people in a multitude of ways.
The god you believe in seems so limited. I'm very sorry for you. I will pray for you. I won't carry on with you regarding this issue any longer. In fact, I will ignore you as so many will. You served no "good" purpose other than to drive any one interested in learning about the LOVE of Jesus,..and the Salvation of the Lord AWAY!! Had I just gone searching and read a thread like this one, filled with your hyperbole, I would have RUN not walked away. Thank the good Lord, many can see you for the mixed up, brainwashed and misinformed sad pathetic person that you are. I don't think I've read sadder comments from someone who professed to have a personal relationship with our Father. I think you are capable of change.. but I fear you are so brainwashed you will never truly see the light. That saddens me. I will pray that the Blood of Jesus Christ who died for us,.. will wash over you and cleanse you. Will make your heart pure..and teach you compassion. Please, Please re-read and re-read the Bible.. over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. I pray the words will soak into your heart. That you will LOVE others as much as you LOVE YOURSELF.
And God Bless you for caring for our Elderly. That is something so precious and loving. That is such a sad situation in our Country. Nursing homes pay such low wages,.. for such an important job. The elderly are so neglected by some families. Not all, I've seen both sides of it ,.. but there are way to many who abandon their folks to be cared for "until death" by total strangers. But thank God some of those "strangers" "become like family". I've heard of more than one situation of where people who work for Nursing homes wouldn't leave the side of thier patients beds when they were dying. I thank God for people like them.
Tonight,.. a special prayer for those Nursing Home workers who truly CARE!! A prayer for you Nakatu!!!
Sleep well. Niters
From the book..a little inconvienient but still there
Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Luke 16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.
BTW I have judged the Harry Potter series very strongly..but I have not said anyone was going to hell for going to it or reading it..people go to hell for rejecting Christ
And if you believe that you can pray the dead into heaven..no matter what the age...you need to read your bible and ask God to show you the truth of His word..
Which you have "accused and judged" many people who stated publicly their love of Christ of doing right here on this thread!! Including myself.
You really need to sit back and objectively READ your posts and that of those who responded to you. I don't think you realize how you come across. I pray you aren't really like you seemed in this thread and others. Hope springs eternal.
BTW,.. I could take all night taking the scriptures you quote..and give you a totally different interpretation. Its so odd to me, that you can read the same words so differently. I think I like my understanding of scripture better. God is my Father.. and he is a loving Father. He hears our prayers,.. ALL PRAYERS. He may not answer them all in a way we think he should.. but he does hear them. His reasons are beyond my understanding sometimes.. but His Will Be Done.. Good night, and God Bless.
If you love the elderly,do not ignore their spiritual state..If my mother is in heaven it will be because someone in a nursing home took time to explain that God loved the world enough to come down here Himself to take her punishment..
If she is in heaven it is because someone was willing to risk asking a dying woman to see herself as God saw her..and to come to repentance.....and to seek her savior.
That someone would risk rejection, and possible job loss...but my mother may be with God because of it..
That would be true love!
In fact, most Christians I know who are NOT reading HP have not taken that position out of fear, but out of their understanding of scripture that we are to avoid, not joke about, and not enjoy those things that God calls evil. God calls witchcraft evil. HP might be a cute kid who rides a broom, but just because we haven't seen anyone riding a broom, doesn't mean that witches aren't real. Furthermore, there are scenes in the HP books that are just plain dark and gruesome, and from what I understand, getting darker and more gruesome If those scenes were in any other book, but a book about a cute little freckled faced boy who rides a broom that the world has gone mad over, I think more parents would object. Right now, anyone who objects is ridiculed.
My 10 and 12 year olds have NEVER read gory stuff. We don't watch gory stuff. We're not going to start with HP.
Scared.....no. We also won't be scared of what other people will think of us because we're not jumping on the HP bandwagon. :)
Dear Father in heaven,.. what on this earth happened to this child? How did you become so lost? Do you think that your Dad or your Mom could not have been saved in even the last minute? I can look and find you the scripture, I believe it was in Daniel, (but I don't remember all the scriptures like a robot, I only try to live them) where Jesus said that people can be saved when they face our Father at the moment of Judgement. Maybe thats where the danger lies. When your trying to remember every verse word for word.. you loose the meaning of them. The part I'm referring to says something about people can be saved if they pray 40 days and 40 nights. Then it goes on.. and someone is saying "But Father,...what if they only learn of you three days before they die".. and then they were told "if they come to me and know me for three days and for three nights they may know the Kingdom of God". Then the verse goes on to say "But what if they never heard of you..?" and they were told, "if they come to me in the moment of judgement they can know the Kingdom of God". I'm not saying it verse for verse, word for word. But God is saying that if we accept God once we KNOW him, be that now or at judgement,.. we can still know the Kingdom of God. Yet you are contradicting Scripture. I know, I read it. There is no other way to interpret it. Be it here, or in heaven at the time of judgement,.. once someone hears of God and accepts him, accepts his son as our Saviour.. then they can know the Kingdom of God. Your parents may very well be in heaven. Only God knows. Yet you have just judged your own parents. Do you not know Scripture regarding respecting your parents? Were they child molesters? Were they so horrible to you that you hate them that much?
I go to bed more disturbed by your words than I was 10 seconds ago. You are such a sad creature. How can you live with yourself? How can you live with such a hostile god. Didnt' you love your parents? Do you expect God to judge you as harsh as you judged them?
And just so you know.. I was talking about your grandson.. not your Mom or Dad. But whoa!!! What came back in your response was so sick. I'm truly dumbstruck.
What I meant is that children are innocent under the age of reason. Do you think babies who die in the womb go to hell?? What about when a woman spontaneously aborts,...and she didn't even know she was pregnant. Do you think that child goes to hell??
I pray that anyone and everyone who believes in God will pray for you tonight. What a LOST soul.
You really need to read all your bible
No God does not hear all prayer..He closes his ears to the prayers of many..the only prayer of the unsaved He hears is their prayer for salvation or one that was already in his will..Why do you think so often in scripture that someone begs God to hear their prayer?
Proverbs 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked [is] an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright [is] his delight.
Proverbs 15:29 The LORD [is] far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
Proverbs 28:9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer [shall be] abomination
Jeremiah 7:16 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.
Jeremiah 11:14 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up a cry or prayer for them: for I will not hear [them] in the time that they cry unto me for their trouble.
Lamentations 3:8 Also when I cry and shout, he shutteth out my prayer.
Lamentations 3:44 Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, that [our] prayer should not pass through.
Isaiah - 59:2But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear.
You may prefer your god to the God of the bible..but that doesnt mean much.
God is a God of great love and great compassion..but He is also a God of judgement mand justice!
My Father was in a coma....slipped into it without an opportunity to repent and seek Christ.....I accept the judgement of God as just..as right and as good..He is God..
I would hope that by some miracle my Mom and Dad repented and were saved,but...the situation makes it unlikely. my love of God,my belief in his mercy and love is not dependant upon anything else but the cross of Jesus Christ....
BTW they were both "good "people..but like all of us ..lost without Christ
Nor was I called to judge you. I am perfectly comfortable with your decision not to read HP. However, you have no standing which allows you to condemn my differing conclusions and it is helpful for no one for you to take on a "preachy" tone.
We disagree. No more, no less. Those who are uncomfortable with HP should leave it at that. If you want to do something useful, try reading Connie Neal's book.
And so the night ends with YOU professing to BE GOD!!!
Like I said.. many "buttons" and the ability to repeat Scripture verse for verse.. does NOT a Christian MAKE!!
I feel physically sick to my stomach after reading your words to so many good people. After reading your words about your own parents. No way do I believe in the god you believe in. NO WAY!!!
May God Bless you and teach you, and give you true wisdom.
I have to tell you now.. I truly will not engage with you again. What you spew is evil in that it is full of being judgemental and self righteous,..and plain out hateful. How twisted you make our Fathers words.
Mostly.. MOSTLY I pray he forgives you for bastardizing his words.
Your a fanatic (look it up in Websters). No less than those who flew the planes into the WTC's. God forgive you. (I believe you need many of us to pray for you, I do believe in the power of prayer, thats in the scriptures too, but you will twist those words too)
It is hard to explain that it is not fear or ignorance but a reverance for the holiness of God.
