November 24, 2001 -- Is Harry Potter the spawn of Satan?
That's the opinion at one Christian school in southern Australia, where parents voted yesterday to forbid students from reading about the bespectacled wizard and his preteen cohorts.
The vote was just part of a widespread anti-Harry backlash by religious conservatives angered by the best-selling books' blatant celebration of witchcraft and the occult.

You sound like a "true" Christian in the most sincerest sense to me. At least you come across as a caring nonjudgemental person. And I'll take you over a 1000 button wearing Christians that don't "get it". Who snub others and talk the talk.. but don't walk the walk.
Great to meet ya Joe.. God Bless!! Mary Ann
Um, am I to understand that the ONLY thing that you are capable of using as a source, is the Bible ? I suggest that you nt only reread what you post, but try to understand what each actually means. No, NOT what you assume it means, what it is actually saying. LOL
You can not tell the difference between an act of God and witchcraft..you believe in praying for the dead (witchcraft)
My mother died when my kiddo was VERY tiny, yet we prayed for her daily and GOD's word helped us live through my mother's illness and death. Afterwards, we prayed that she is with GOD,
You value the opinion of man over the opinion of God..so you want my argument..I offer God's word..you offer your opinion that God thinks this is just fine...nothing in the bible about Harry Potter,so God just must love witchcraft fantasy
You know what? I believe what the word of God says..it isn't just good literature,or a good guidepost for living..it is the very revelation of God..
I get the feeling that to you all books are created equal
ROFLOL!!!! That was so great. Good to laugh at the end of a long day :o)
It would be great if life's problems could be solved so simply wouldn't it?? Oh well. At least we have God to help us through these times. I don't know how anyone gets through life with out Him.
Thanks again for such a fun post. Felt good to smile :o)
Send them to hell with a smile and a handshake! What ever you do hide the gospel..maybe you could send him a Potter book instead!
You reposted a part of my reply (cherrypicking again !) and yet you haven't read it, nor understood any of it. CONGRATULATIONS ! You have just managed to thoroughly shoot yourself in both feet, and I'll allow those reading the posts, to make up their own minds abou which one of us is calmly trying to make some semblance of sense here.
Good point, but I doubt if the poster will understand it.
And yet another person who hasn't read the book, nor seen the movie.
Look, I don't believe in people judging others. I don't think someone should say.. YOUR GOING TO HELL. YOUR A SINNER IF YOU WATCH HARRY POTTER.. K?? Thats my point. And to say that they will, thats judgeing. If like RNMomof7 you admit you saw "The Wizard of Oz" and yet found it was NOT Evil..then your a hypocrite for judgeing those who HAVE watched seen Harry Potter. Because there is NO DIFFERENCE. They're about the same. I know, I've seen both. Have you??
And, had you read all my posts,.. you would know that I admit to sin. I know that I work on ME all the time. I read the Bible and have several times.. but I sure as heck don't profess to KNOW it all. I won't stop RE-READING it, and assuming I KNOW ALL THERE IS TO KNOW. I think sometimes evil can be those who would chase people away FROM God and the living word of God.
I think the only thing cultish are people who followed the likes of the Rev. Jones. To follow any Minister, MORE than the good sense the Lord gave us,..and to follow them more than the words of the Bible, is dangerous. Thats my opinion. I will repeat my belief for you.. I think it is probably MORE dangerous than any FICTIONAL movie. Because your talking about people who claim to talk FOR ALL CHRISTIANS, Who are hateful, hurtful, and judgemental.
I think One_particular_harbour actually said it pretty well. He may be more graphic than I would choose to be,.. but his point is well taken. God gave us Jesus. Jesus attoned (sp) for many of the things that God mentioned in the Old Testament. Attoned may not be the word I'm trying to remember.. but in other words.. Once Jesus said that the old rules were "now changed".. they were. IF he mentioned them, and said this is how it is now done.. they were changed.
So then the New Testament, became the word of God through His only begotten Son Jesus.
I can say a murderer is a murderer. That is a form of "judgement". But to say that RNMomof7 is going to hell would be wrong. Thats a form of judgement that is saved for God Alone!! She is "judgeing" others as having sinned. Thats a job for GOD alone. I can say what I think Sin is.. but to accuse someone of it.. again, thats wrong. I can say abortion is a sin,.. but I shouldn't judge the person who got one,.. rather I should help them find God because they can be forgiven.. and thats what Gods love is all about.
I can "judge" a person by the laws of our land,... I could even "judge" him if I served in a jury and sentence him to death. But I won't judge his soul. NOT MY JOB!!
I hope I've explained myself. But if it isn't good enough for you.. then what can I say? I promise you this.. I will rest quite well tonight. I won't be dreaming or thinking that the evil witch from the Wizard of Oz was real.. or the one on Snow White and the Seven dwarves. I still won't think Dragons are real.. or that otters can talk, or that trolls exist. Some people really need a reality check.. and YUP.. Thats my judgement!! :o)
God??...now thats Reality!!! And I'm thankful every day of my life for that FACT!!
Peace .. bro!!! LOL
No that is not what you said..Here is you exact quote
"My mother died when my kiddo was VERY tiny, yet we prayed for her daily and GOD's word helped us live through my mother's illness and death. Afterwards, we prayed that she is with GOD,
So just who did you pray to that your mother ,who was dead and judged was 'with god?'Did you think your prayer would make a difference?
I hate to keep quoting that pesky "book"..but to be absent from the body is to be present to God...praying for the dead is to believe that you have some effect in the outcome of god's judgement.
Every time one of "you" call people like me "Bible thumpers" (and worse at times) I get this big grin on my face. How insecure you and others must feel to ridicule those of us who are secure in our faith in God.
Pity you.
By the time you form those words that person is judged..heaven or hell...you can ask all you want, but the decision was made or not made while that person lived..
Better to pray for the living to repent and respond to the gospel..
Jesus
So just who did you pray to that your mother ,who was dead and judged was 'with god?'Did you think your prayer would make a difference?
If that is the type of "compassion" your church and god teach..then I NEVER WANT ANY PART OF IT. The God I believe in is one of comforting. He knows how much we hurt when we lose someone. His Own Son Jesus CRIED OUT LOUD when Lazarus died. Grief IS COMFORTED by prayer.
That was the most evil cruelest thing I've ever read on this forum. God forgive you!!!!
Do you think it was fiction in Acts..were the disciples deceived into thinking there was such a thing as witchcraft? Perhaps they were fools..Or perhaps they took the Law too literally? Or perhaps the NT is lying..What do you think?
And would you tell me what the metaphor is in HP?
