My comment that most of us could care less was simply to show that Northerners are concerned with other things today, unfortunatly most of them involve pushing a socialist agenda, but many do not even realize that the South still holds a grudge against us Yankees. Only history buff notherners care about this issue anymore (until the next crap Civil war movie comes out, then everyone is a goddamned authority).
As for you understanding the true meaning of the Civil war thats great, and it's great that you would have stood up against invaders coming into your beloved South. You should thank the North for being the first , and only invaders to come into the South. Had we sat back and allowed you to form a Confederate state then there would have been a long line of invaders coming into the South, and North. Starting with the English, and French forces. Because of the "War of Northern Aggression" as you call it, the USA has become the most powerful nation in the world. If you would like to get angry at us Northerners, you can easily point to the bloated government we created in the years following the war. This is the true Northern aggression.

the USA has become the most powerful nation in the world. And if you take a look at where the military forces come from that have defended her in the last 100 years I think you will find most of the troops hail from a loyal South. The first time I attended a parade for the Army's Birthday, it hurt me to see the United States flag flying with Battle Flags from Antietam and Gettysburg and all the other battles fought in the South. But my father fought for the US in WWII and my husband fought for the US in Vietnam. They are veterans of the whole United States. The only time I think you will hear unhospitable remarks from a true Southerner is when they are goaded....when someone ignorant of history tries to demean us on a regional basis. Can I as a historian admit that a better result was obtained by keeping all the states together and by expanding across the continent? Of course. Can I feel loyalty to the United States of America? Of course, because I too am sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. But that never means that anyone, not anyone, should expect to insult the South and not receive a response. And that never means that anyone, not anyone, should expect to enter my state under arms and not expect to be met with the same.
