RETRANSMITTING TO CLARIFY CAPTION: A bleeding Afghan refugee, who was struck in the face by a rock, rushes with others across the border after a crowd of refugees trying to cross into Pakistan hurled stones at Pakistani police and journalists when the border was temporarily closed, near Chaman, Pakistan Tuesday Nov. 20, 2001. There are many Afghans who are worthy of our compassion. |
thanks again
Maybe so, but I'm afraid we are mowing them down by the hundreds even as I type. BBC World Service last night quoted refugees like these as saying our bombing of Kunduz, where there are supposedly 30,000 civilians trapped between the warring factions, was not really discriminating between military and civilian targets anymore. Enough of them in the Pakistani refugee camp had shrapnel wounds to convince the BBC reporter anyhow think they weren't making it up.
I don't blame our military; these poor people are just in the way, packed into a small area like sardines. And Pres. Bush has said, "We are all soldiers now."
