Washington was not a deist, though many Atheists claim he was. Neither were the Vast Majority of the Founding Fathers.

The Atheist Revisionists like to use the cut and paste technic to discredit our founding fathers. They will cut one portion out of a quote and say, "Hey this is in line with Deistic thinking." and say that they were not Christian.

Or they will ignore any sources and attempt to discredit any sources that do not follow in line with their thinking.

I knew that sooner or later it would turn in to a bash-Libertarians fest.

Well done. it'll go right over the dope-hazed heads of the pro-drug, pro-porn, pro-sodomy libertarians here.

Not that they approve of any of that nasty stuff, you understand. No, they despise it. That's why they are marching lock-step with the liberals to turn our nation into a sewer. Because they don't approve of dope, porn, or sodomy.

They assure me that it all makes sense. Sort of. Especially if you're stoned.

No ad hominem statements here, no siree. :)

That what I like about you, Mr. Curry, your absolute refusal to say one kind thing about those with whom you disagree. Even better, is that you won't even acknowledge what you are saying is insulting. I can't think of anything I like better than debating someone as your self. Please allow me to give a few, humble suggestions that might make us reach an understanding.

If possible, in the future please be even more strident and assuming. I can't think of anything that is more convincing than abject stubbornness. While you're at it, work on your techniques putting words into other people's mouths and mis-characterizing their postitions. This, combined with your uncompromising nature is sure to make friends. Secondly, please don't listen to what people are saying, and try to move on to a new point. It is much better to repeat the same things over and over. No one wants to actually progress in a debate beyond name calling. If you do that, people will look at you funny.

Lastly, remember if you can't say something nice, be sure to put it down in the written word. Better to put down for posterity the low opinions of others, rather than to keep them to yourself.

Sarcastically yours,

LC

The Founding Fathers murdered innocent women and children?

No, the British did that.

I said that the Founding Father's would be considered terrorists by the way that term is used in recent legislation such as the PATRIOT Act.

Hell, supporters of the Constitution are viewed with suspicion now as possible terrorists. Butchering women and children has nothing to do with the way the word "terrorist" is now being defined.

You're being too grumpy, just like the old-timer conservative fellow you mocked at that Freep.

Atheists tend to ATTEMPT to re-write history and claim that all of our Founding Fathers were either Deists or Atheists, even though the Evidence does not support this theory.

Thomas Paine was the only outright atheist that I know of. The rest were mainly members of the Episcopal church which was/is hardly fundamentalist by today's terminology. Yes, there were Founding Fathers such as Benjamin Rush who could be classified as fundamentalist but the more prominent Founding Fathers just weren't all that religious although many did attend church services.

libertarians...have better debating skills...

there are some fine minds who are supporting libertarianism and i enjoy my discourses with them.

on the other hand, i find that many libertarians cannot debate and do not have a lot of answers for the questions that they are asked. this is when they the resort to discrediting the other person, name calling, etc.

Well I don't mean to get into an argument with you, and maybe the common perception is wrong, and you have studied it with care, and are right. Have you? Maybe he was a fundamentalist Mason. Are there any of those?

You're talking about the good old days of Free Republic, when you've posted here for a grand total of six days?

Maybe there was a really good thread he liked that was here six days ago and maybe it got pulled or something.

Episcolpaleans were thin on the ground in New England. Most were Congregationalists, including Adams.

Oddly enough, that most cynical of British Philosophers, Samuel Johnson, could be considered a Fundamentalist. A lot of people don't know this but he was very religious. Go figure.

OK, I wasn't sure about what you were saying. You are correct Most of the Founding Fathers were Anglicans (Episcopalians) which BTW Was much more conservative at that time than the Modern Episcopalian Church.

Thomas Paine is pushed as an Atheist/Deist, largly because of his work The Age of Reason that embraced French Rationalism, But were you aware that in later years he had a profound change and wrote:

"I would give worlds, if I had them, if the Age of Reason had never been written. O Lord, Help, Stay with me! It is hell to be left alone."

When Thomas Paine Gave his last words he said:

I die in perfect composure and resignation to the will of my Creator, God."

it is real easy to reprogram a brain that had nothing in it to begin with!

Jim Robinson is anti-war on drugs which means those threads are allowed to infect the forum.

What he doesn't realize is pro-legalization are either leftists trying to push their agenda under the conservative buzzwords "freedom" and "the right of the people"...or those who have been duped by leftists into thinking that.

Once the camels nose was under the tent, it became an easy thing for a leftist to come on here, post something outrageous, wait for someone to respond with an insult, and then get them banned by hitting the abuse button.

Libertarian DOES NOT equal conservative.

----------------------------------------

How would you know? You don't sound 'conservative' to me. Authoritarian is more apt, imo.

Jim, would you like to comment on the 'infection' you have allowed here?

I do know that to be conservative not to very long ago meant that you agreed with religious people more than leftists.

So leftists are NOT religious? I have a cousin married to a USC professor that's a born again Christian. She's a leftist and AntiWar - all the rest. I'm not very religious and consider myself rather conservative and HARD CORE Republican. That you believed freely available pornography was bad for people and society, not a "right" of the people. That drugs were harmful to people and society, not a "right" for the people. That true freedom is the right of society to restrict that which does harm, not encourage it.

IMO these issues you raise have NOTHING - ZERO to do with politics. They are personal, religious convinctions in nature. Pornography is not harmful to adults. Many of us use alcohol, cigarettes, grass... I have no problem with you and your beliefs and I grant you the RIGHT to believe them, but please don't expect me not to look at Playboy or smoke a little grass.
