You are right about the slime factor. I just wonder how aggressive they will be against McCall this time. Pataki will be strong and I believe that incumbents and "mature" candidates will win big in the next few elections -- bigger than usual. Thus, do you want to expose intra-party divisions in order to nominate a sacrificial lamb?

Still, it seems that the Dem nomination fight for NY governor will be a microcosm of fighting between the various Democratic factions.

Playing the race card as avidly as any 1960's Dixiecrat, Cuomo's warning that blacks and Hispanics could scuttle the Democratic Party's chances next year seems certain to further exacerbate tensions in a party already split along racial fault lines.
