I think I have to agree that this makes it less likely that the person sending the anthrax is a foreign terrorist. Leahy is a jerk, as we all know, but he's not the Majority Leader or really anybody who would be on the radar screen of al-Qaida.

It looks like the October 9 anthrax attack was directed to liberal weenies. Brokaw, Daschle, and now Leahy.

I don't think this rules out Middle Eastern terrorists. I doubt that they are even aware of the differences in the parties here. They would simply pick out prominent names. Any major news personality regardless of political persuasion would be a potential target - the bigger the name the better. Daschle, being the top person in the Senate is an obvious choice and Leahy, being the new chair of the Judiciary Committee, is featured pretty heavily in the major media outlets.

To Osama and his minions all Americans are equally evil and the bigger the name the better the target.

I suspect that they will still find more letters once they have the opportunity to go through all of the mail that has been set aside.
