That is pretty scary! I am sure someone either unbolted that baby or broke some welds. Either that or a little explosive action did the deed. Screw the airline industry, public safety is more important!

The tail fabric, a modern composite, failed. All the bolts are still attached, but the tail tore off. It had been involved in some questionable incident years ago and was not replaced. Apparently there was some delamination. In any case, I saw a photo of the bolts in place as well as a photo of the torn segment. This is a matter of sensitivity now because by most any standard, all airbuses should be grounded until a they find a way to truly substantiate what parts may be in such a condition. Not the best time to do this with all the 'war' etc going on, and not the best time to do this with airlines in Europe on the verge of going under. Dicey having a bunch of Americans in the position to pull the ticket on so many European companies.
