From the cereal ad that the woman says to the (female) child "before daddy met mommy, daddy didn't eat so good" Unfortunately when baby grows up she won't speak so good.

The ad is distasteful to men but Hefty is trying to sell bags to WOMEN. If the women remember the ad..good or bad, they'll probably pick up a box of Hefty bags/wrap or whatever. Women actually adore dependable men, unfortunately many of us have multiple experiences with the opposite.
Thus the humor in the ad.
Flame away.

Ok, here's the deal...
I work in advertising so I can tell you that the ad in question had to be scrutinized by many people, men and women, before it could even begin production. Was it a woman who wrote it? Maybe, but more than likely a man edited it or had some other kind of oversight over it.
I think that rather than be offended by a company trying to sell _garbage bags_ for god's sake, you might do better to just do what I do, ignore stupid ads. Bad ads get pulled in their own time.

Amen, Brother Disclaimer. Boston Lib you're way off base. Almost every single commercial shows a clueless white guy being informed or corrected by a woman or a minority. I'll "take a joke" when the others start taking a joke.
To rephrase, It's the double-standard, stupid. And it's a cultural phenomenon that is certainly worthy of the attention of Freepers.

If the ad ran on Lifetime television I'd just turn the channel from the jaded woman channel. But, this ad addressed the news watching public. How do you think a company finds out it's running a bad ad anyway? How does the company know money was left on the table if everyone did nothing and nothing was said. When a company recieves a complaint they have to assume x number of people have the same opinon but didn't act on it. Well, I did.

Flame Flame Flame.....;)
You're right. Usually women do the shopping for the house (at least that's my experience) and the ad wants to target the correct audience. I still think that it's wrong to perpetuate a bad stereotype and a worse double standard. I guarantee that if Black and Decker came out with a leaf blower commercial for men that used the obvious joke - the ad would be pulled, someone would lose their job, and Black and Decker would be the target of a class action lawsuit sponsored by NOW.
Unless of course the participants in the commercial were gay. That would be OK.
/sarcasm off

If the [jaded] women remember the ad..good or bad, they'll probably pick up a box of Hefty bags/wrap or whatever. Women actually adore dependable men, unfortunately many of us [jaded women] have multiple experiences with the opposite. Thus the humor in the ad.
Okay, now I understand. :-)

How about the Special K commercial, where the woman walks by the man, sitting at a table, and she whacks him up side the head with a box of Special K, and grins. You know who would be screaming if it was the other way around. Funny you mentioned the Special K commercial - my fiance has a real problem with that ad. She picked up on that one right away.

The newest male bashing commercial is for a toilet bowl cleaner that freshens the air in the bathroom, too. You see the dad walking away from the bathroom with a newspaper in his hands. It has a little girl with her shirt pulled up over her nose running to "tell on" daddy for stinking up the bathroom. Mommy comes to the rescue with the new toilet bowl product.
Of course everyone knows that it always smells like rose petals after a woman has been in there.

Big time ditto on Special K. Man too stupid. Maybe something to this Special K. Get real. I know just as many guys that are as self-conscious of what they eat as women do. As a father of a 5 month old baby boy, I'm offended by the recent JC Penney ad showing a dad sitting next to his kid in the high chair (kid being a kid and screaming / throwing food) and the dad whining about when mommy will be back. Cut to mom at the one-day only sale with a big satisfied smile on her face. I honestly don't know many dad's who are that inept or pathetic when it comes to taking care of their kids. Tantrum or no tantrum. You treat it like this: No shopping at JC Penney.

I doubt that you'll have much luck complaining about the male-bashing. I suspect, however, that if you point out that the commercial portrays women as shallow, self-centered b*tches, it'll be off the air tomorrow. The odd thing is, I think, is that feminists like to be call b*tches because they confuse it with being assertive. But, who's complaining anyway. I'm just telling them like it is.

Get over yourself-this is a conservative site.
If you really want to "lib-speak" go somewhere else.
Who cares!
To: tacticalogic
What about the brokerage ad (is it Fidelity?) where there's a split screen, on one side the husband saying all these self-satisfied things about his investing prowess, and the wife, knowing he's full of bull, saying, "Did he really say that?" I don't know if it's fidelity, but whatever the company, the ad goes something like this: Hubby: I got ???Fidelity??? because it give me all these features so I can craft my investment strategy. Wife: Did he really say that? He got ???Fidelity??? because if he's going to build a portfolio, he's gonna do it with people who've already done it.

Must of hit a nerve here. How is any of this "lib-speak"?
Golly, I hope I didn't offend freegonzo.

Don't know. Haven't seen the ad. I generally don't pay much attention to commercials. I wish Intel still used Blue Man Group in their ads, though.

What's this? The commercial is not politically correct? It portrays a negative stereotype of men? Boycott, I say! Uh, no offense meant -- really. I mean it's not a pun. I didn't mean to imply that you are a "boy". Not that being a boy is a bad thing mind you, but the word "boy" conveys a negative stereotype of young males. It implies they are maturity-challenged. Not that I think being challenged in any way is a bad thing. Don't get me wrong. Some of my best friends are immature. They get upset over the trivial things you can imagine. But that's okay with me. Everyone should be empowered to get upset over whatever inconsequential trivial bit of nothing they want to get upset over. Don't get me wrong though. People who get upset over people getting upset over trivial things only perpetrate a negative stereotype of upset people. We all should be empowered -- free of negative stereotypes! They are so denigrating, don't you think?
