Woman Awarded $2 Million from Husband's Mistress
WKRN ^

Posted on 11/16/2001 1:09:32 PM PST by chance33_98

A North Carolina woman is $2 million richer after winning a lawsuit against her husband's mistress.

She sued under the state's alien of affection law.

The woman testified that the other woman infiltrated her family and demanded retribution.

The judge agreed.

"Well, of course I think it takes two to tango," said Christine Cooper, the sued husband's girlfriend.

Some legal experts have questioned the constitutionality of the law, calling it an opportunity to get revenge on a spouse.

The ruling is the most money ever awarded under the law.

Bravo to NC. We need a national version of this law (and an end to no-fault divorce).

Last week, yet another legislative effort to abolish the claims in North Carolina received a blow as a bill was sent back to a Senate committee rather than face all-but-certain defeat by the chamber. Some lawmakers predicted that would be the last seen of the bill this year.

May God continue to bless the Old North State and the lawmakers that sent this bill to oblivion

And if there are any here that disagree with this law, please note 95 runs North and South and 40 runs due East. If you need help packing, please ping me!!

Southern Moral Bump!!!

And I agree with you. I don't see anything wrong with this cause of action.

Have you ever had a spouse run out on you with another person. There is no pain like that in the world. Months, if not years, of questions and mental torment. I believe that the mistress or punk that slept with your spouse shouldn't have to pay, but since your spouse breached the contract(marriage), he or she should have to pay. The breacher should also lose any possessions accrued in the marriage such as the cars, houses, bank accounts, etc. I bet you the divorce rate, after the initial surge by husbands and wifes finally being able to stand up to their contract-breaking spouses without fear of losing everything eventhough they stayed faithful, would plummet.

This is a sore spot, so I want to ramble on a little further.

In any contract, there is a penalty for breaching it. When you get married, your marriage is recorded in a circuit court because it is a name change and contract. That is why it requires a judge to dissolve it. Therefore, if you break the contract of marriage, you should get nothing that was aquired in the marriage, plus pay a penalty. If there is no penalty for breaking the marriage, why should anyone go before a judge/justice of the peace or minister to marry. You may as well just consider yourself married until it is no longer convenient.

LOL!! Heck no!! If they don't want to go back North or visit their relatives in New York 2(Florida), let 'em run into the ocean. Why should we force our brothers to the west of us to have to deal with them? Tennessee's too long of a state(even though the good folks of Tenn were threatening to take one of the South's finest sipping whiskey away all for that nice little plant sitting in the middle of Canton supposedly dirtying up 'their' river) They'd probably stop halfway and the next thing you know we wouldn't even have country music anymore!!

Someone else on FR suggested his wife should seduce Bill Gates after reading this thread.

I proposed this to my wife; she was NOT interested... Oh well, back to the grind!
