At the NTSB press conference, they just stated that both engines appear to be intact and that there are no signs of engine failure, according to George Black, NTSB Boardmember.

This is all just speculation of course. That's what we're doing here unless someone has inside info.
If a company builds bad stabilizers for some planes, the new planes might show the same problem later.
Aerdynamic forces rise with low altitude, turbulance, and the square of velocity. If the stabilizer was weak and came off during turbulance and the plane was going fast enough sideways, the wings would rip off.
The Space Shuttle failed very near "Max Q" or maximum dynamic force (air density times velocity squared).

FYI: on Reuters:
Rattling Heard in Last Minutes of Doomed Flight * * *
Listening to the cockpit voice recorder, the rattling of the frame of the Airbus A300-600 can be heard 107 seconds after the pilots powered up the engines and again 14 seconds later, Black said.
The timing still must be matched up with the flight data recorder and with radar, investigators said.
Midway between the two rattling sounds, the captain can be heard remarking that he was encountering the wake of a plane ahead of him, he said.
That plane was a JAL 747, Black said.

On NPR this evening (sorry, nothing better to listen to on the drive home)
there was a stew who lived in Rockaway who described having a piece of what appeared to her to be galley part
that flew into her house when the plane crashed nearby.
Could be consistent with your thought.

I think it was Bush's TAX CUT.

That plane was a JAL 747, Black said.If you'd have said a JAL 747 with an Arab tailgunner, you would be a hero here right now.

Probably a random check. The FAA has mandated security sweeps on planes on a random basis. I don't know the criteria for selection, but there's no notice. You don't suppose one of the security personnel could actually be. . .???

Oh, I agree.
I just wasn't clear where you were going with the comment.
The stab is just too clean for me to sleep well on airplanes, particularly with no engine problems.

"On this board, all you need is a couple of dozen posters to say "In my mind it was a bomb."
I haven't seen your reported phenomena on this board, even though I have tried to read everything on this topic. All that I have read is that some people dispute that a routine mechanical failure could account for this crash, and a few people speculate that a bomb could have been involved.
I would like to hear from some self-proclaimed experts, such as Tennessee Bob, as to what bomb causation would look like. Has anyone heard from TN Bob since the TNSB press conference "shot down" his pet theory of engine failure?
I tend to suspect that there was a bomb or other explosive device which brought this plane down, but I would like to know what that would look like and how the known evidence fits within that scenario.

I'm glad you cleared that up for me. Thanks.....Just curious why when people of you ilk have a disagreement with someone you tend to equate proficiency in English with intelect. Last I.Q. Test I took.....I scored 159. Say what you will and it is predictable. Einstien was poor at spelling and English. He also had dyslexia (so do I). It apparently has little affect on cognitive reasoning. Oh no.....................I can see it already you will claim that I am comparing myself to Einstien. If attacking me makes you feel better go for it. You and your type seem to enjoy wasting your time. P.S. I have a degree in Physics and Mathematics so please don't lecture me on mundane knowledge you appear to think is only privy to you awe inspiring intelect

I think it was Bush's TAX CUT. No, this accident was a ploy by the Democrats to federalize aircraft mechanics. Since we now know that we can't trust airline mechanics, we must make the mechanics all federal government employees and card-carrying Democrats.
Just joking.

When I read what you write in that magical font...it is so beautiful, and magical, and spiritual, and
I feel like I'm falling in love, or going to heaven, and I think of unicorns, and magic snow, and fairies, and angels, and I could just die, I really mean it.
what were you saying?
I'm not sold on the "it's just an accident routine; however, if the pilot was encountering the wake of a plane ahead of him, what can a wake do to a plane?
