even the new guy that didn't show back up to work yesterday.

I hadn't heard that. Got a source or a link?

Right. I'm the one embarassing myself. I'm all for letting the NTSB do its job. The tin-foilers pick and choose what they want to hear.

Newly registered lurker and my first post so go easy on me....

It's too bad that folks feel intimidated when they begin posting. Most freepers are good people, and those that harass are usually just teasing.

Am I the only one who wants to know exactly who serviced and had access on the ground crew to that plane/engine on 11-11 and was the flight that crashed the first time it had been in the air since the ground crew worked on it ?

Nope, it's a question many of us have posed. Join the club.

I know I am paranoid but...

YOU'RE A FREEPER FOR SURE!!! WELCOME ABOARD!!!

Sometimes, engines ARE designed to separate from aircraft if the vibrations(like an off balance washing machine) are great enough to affect flight characteristics....or so I've heard.

hypocritical and intellectually bankrupt.

They haven't told us the truth about a damn thing since this happened. Even the press conference was geared to the *accident* theory, except it is much harder to do with a straight face.
Intellectually bankrupt is accusing people with honest questions deciphering DISHONEST data intellectually bankrupt.

This just in.....The NTSB has determined a Flock of Seagulls did not cause damage to the engines. However, It has not rule out Red hot Chile Peppers, M&M or Iced T from causing the damage.....that is all.....

And the tail just disattached itself? I certainly hope they are microscopically examining the MECHANICS who performed that last check.....

How well are the engines attached for inverted flying while at max power? I wonder?

Shhhhh! We got us a real good conspiracy theory goin' here, and none of us has any real information to back it up. Don't spoil the mood!

John Gibson just had a former safety investigator on his show who said that someone who knew the plane well could affect the stabilizer which would cause what was seen in the accident. He said, I don't mean anyone with wrench, but someone who knows the plane and knows what he is doing.

I hadn't thought about the metal fatigue possibility, but it still seems like that could be ruled out in this case. I mean, an engine might fall off, but the tail would wear out at the exact same time?

I'm still not jumping to any conclusions here, but it seems to me that it looked a lot like an accident yesterday morning and it looks a lot more intentional this afternoon.

I guess there's still a middle ground for some negligence in maintenance that led to this but I think the "burden of proof" just shifted in this case.

On another thread, you can read all of this witnesses account EyeWitness Ken. Here's a portion:

Ken: Alright, I was out on the boat about a hundred twentieth a hundred nineteenth st when un we stopped the boat cause we have an engine..yah know the engine was making weird sounds, so we stopped the boat and we were back by the engine and I heard a popping sound...not like a a a I cant even say it was an explosion, it was more like a pop and then like a whishing sound and then part of the wing came off.

John:Where was the plane at that moment?

Ken: Right over the bay. Right over the bay

John So is it almost right above you?

Ken: Yes, kinda to the north of us, cause we where more to the east channel drive at that time, on that side of Jamaica Bay and um the pieces that came off the wing...flew into the um tail and tore the tail off and as soon as that happened the plane went belly up towards us and towards the east and it just dove straight down, like the uhh the belly of the plane actually turned toward the south and it went straight down into the ground.

John: So you saw some big pieces of this plane come off...

Ken:We was the first ones on the scene and then the police boat came and we helped them pick up parts of the boat..uh..parts a the plane. We actually took up the blue A off of the tail we put that in the boat. Ummm the picture of the....another piece of the whole top of the tail with the flag on it was laying in shallow water. We took up allot of pieces of the boat...the plane we put it on the boat and took them in to the police boat an helped load em onto the police boat but a a the engine

Rosannabreaks in: Well it sounds like you have some crucial information Ken...

His voice rising Ken says: See the engine...everybody keeps saying the engine fell off...if it fell off it fell off on the way down....

John:U Huh

Ken: That plane as soon as its tail came off it just bellied up and went straight down, so yah know people saying yah know the engine came off, but that came off after the fact. Now as far as explosion, something was happening over the bay, something made the wing shatter and took of the tail. and uh the way I seen it , it still looked like it had its engines on as it was going down.

Here is my take right from the beginning:

Tail stabilizer was tampered with because of the way it was found with very little damage. It did not appear to be separated forcefully from the plane at all. I suspect it was somehow loosened prior to the flight.

When the tail falls off it disrupts the electronic controls of the plane and the pilot must accelerate speed in order to gain control. He may have done that which caused the engine to torque and break away, or the engine may have also been tampered with in some way causing it to break away when the plane was rattling.

In any case, I smell a rat.
