In that same briefing with Patkati and the mayor, there was a mention that the reason other flights were prevented from taking off was that they had to inspect the fuel (which would take several hours).

Contaminated fuel? Ever heard of such a thing?

Unlikely to have an explosive effect. More likely to just starve the engine.

Yes, several years ago in San Antonio, Texas the wrong type fuel was put into a small plane. The plane crashed about five miles from the airport.
