White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said there were no unusual communications from the
cockpit of an American Airlines plane that crashed Monday in New York, and a senior
administration official added, "It's looking like it's not a terrorist attack."
Spin doctors to eye witnesses:
" That wasnt an explosion you heard.
It was a catastrophic mechanical failure. "
Investigators suggested the noise was caused by a catastrophic mechanical failure.

White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said there were no unusual communications from the
cockpit of an American Airlines plane that crashed Monday in New York. The head of the
U.S. safety board said, ``All information we have currently is that this is an accident.''
"Like a bomb exploded" says witness
The crash of an American Airlines jet south of New York's John F. Kennedy airport
started fires "all over the Rockaway peninsula," witnesses said.
Wreckage found at four locations
A senior Bush administration official told CNN initial indications are that there was
an exlosion aboard the plane, an Airbus A300, but that the source of the explosion is unknown.
Witness saw explosion on right side of aircraft
Jackie Power, an eyewitness who lives in Brooklyn, told ABCNEWS she and her seeing an explosion and flash on the right side of the plane where the wing meets the
fuselage, and the the plane plunged straight down.
FBI says explosion on plane...255 passengers onboard
The FBI believes there was an explosion on board the jet which crashed in New
York with 255 people on board.
