Gonna come as a big surprise to Peter Jennings who expressed relief that this was NOT another terrorist attack and that ABC was returning to their regular programming.

But then what was up with the engine that fell before the plane went down? Would an explosion inside the plane cause that? Or was it an explosion at the engine? If that, what is it and how is it caused?
To: dep
You can bet they know more than they are saying at this point.

Check for any turbans who had access to the turbines --

FoxNews has also been reporting that the FBI thinks there was an explosion on board before the crash.

Eyewitness:
"I didn't hear an explosion at first when I saw the metal fall. I heard an explosion about a minute and a half later," she said. The engine came away before the explosion.

When Fox reported explosion, they were saying they were the only ones reporting it, they emphasized that explosion could come from sources other than a bomb. Discussed airline and even passenger resistance to baggage screening.

Maybe someone got confused and replaced a turbine blade with a turban? Look for the guy with a sheet of metal wrapped around his head.

You can bet they know more than they are saying at this point. Or..... It was a simple mechanical problem, but if the sheeple think it was terrorists, then they just may agree to give up nore freedoms.
To: Selara
It would seem the the FBI would need to have some other knowledge to make such a statement.

By now, they've checked the pasenger manifest to see if any al queda boys might have been on the aircraft, with his baggage in the cargo hold, ticking away, or waiting to be triggered by radio.
Another move on the chess board. Time to get medieval, in a 21st century kinda way.

there are numerous reports of a wing separation. the last time this happened as the result of plain old mechanical failure was the mainspar problem with the lockheed electra in the early 1960s. highly unlikely with an airbus.

The engine came away before the explosion.point 1 : One of several eyewitnesses.
point 2 : Light travels just slightly faster than sound.
point 3 : You COULD be entirely correct.

Local ABC affiliate in Atlanta is on showing CNN video, looks like ABC is indeed off the story.
Unbelieveable that Jennings has declared in effect "Move along, nothing to see here"

Ask yourself why the FBI would make such a statement at this point? I have no answers, but this FBI statement is curious.
