Remember the DC-10 in O'Hare about 20 years ago. It lost an engine and lost control because of the resulting wieght imbalance between the wings.

The roll of the aircraft was due to the loss of hydraulics when the engine separated, causing retraction of the slats on one wing but not the other, thus the uncontrolled roll. Had the slats not retracted the pilot should have been able to maintain controlled flight of the aircraft.

You are right about that. As I recall, the primary and secondary hydraulics were right next to one another and were severed simultaneously. Your memory is better than mine.

BTW, 770 WABC reporting 257 people on board the flight. All trains, tunnels and bridges to NYC closed. Cannot get telephone line to NYC for love or money.

Exactly, Also, he had no good stall or AOA indication, with the wing misconfigured, etc.
