I agree with the latter part of your statement, and not the former. Solar heating works only in sunny parts of the country where heating needs are minimal anyway.

Here in Iowa my parents have passive solar heat for their house. They heat their house with Electricity for only about 200 dollars per year. When it was being build 10 or 15 years ago it was 30 below outside yet sunny and the carpenters were working in their t-shirts. They were saying "I'm gonna have to make a house like this for me!".
